Customer Review: Airborne just another hyped up scam
Summary: 1 Stars

I broke down today and purchased two little individual "Airborne Effervescent Heath Formula" tablets. I was desperate. I'm going away for the holiday, driving several hours and I feel a cold coming on. But when I sat down and started to read the ingredients, I stopped. Then I threw them in the garbage and popped a Cold-eeze.

Just like when this product first came out and everyone said it was SO amazing, I backed away. I'm not so concerned about the Vitamin C.. Yes, it's a high dose and I certainly wouldn't eat three of these tablets a day. The high dose of vitamin C would give me stomach problems, I know that much. What REALLY concerns me is when I don't know WHAT the ingredients are? Such as "chinese vitex", "isatis", "lonicera",..and so on. I don't have the time to go look up each of these ingredients and find out what they are, what they do, if they are safe/how they interact with other medications, etc etc. The bottom line is: This product has not been evaluated by the FDA. No true studies have been done to prove it's safety OR effectiveness as a cold-killer. ..And herbal remedies can interact poorly with other meds. Can even be dangerous in some cases.

The Only thing I have ever used that shortened the length and severity of my colds is a product called COLD-EEZE. If you eat two a day when you first start to get sick, there is a decent chance it will help you. It's not a cure-all. And they taste disgusting. But they do usually help me. (About 75% of the time?) Another thing that can assist with boosting your immune system is something called Naked Juice. It's 100% juice, with lots of naturally occurring vitamins/minerals. Not all are tasty. But there are many to choose from. I think it's a bit more beneficial then drinking plain ol' orange juice...though OJ will never go out of style!

Hate to burst anyone's bubble, but here's my story, and I'm sticking to it. My husband, who rarely gets anything, had a bad cold last week. After hearing raves about Airborne, I went out and bought the stuff "just in case." I'm a health nut, exerciser, rarely-get-sick person, too. About a week into my husband's cold, I did start to feel the tiniest scratchiness in my throat. So I immediately started the regime and followed it exactly. Results two days later? I can't even talk, I have such a bad cold! The science behind colds is that we get fewer colds as we get older. That's because we've already been exposed to so many cold viruses as children and young people. Our immune systems "remember" the viruses and knock them out with effective antibodies. So if you don't get someone else's cold, it's probably caused a cold virus is structurally identical or similar to the one the other person has. Your immune system recognized it and fired off effective antibodies. Airborne didn't prevent it, your immune system did. You weren't going to get that cold anyway! Now don't everybody go getting mad at me. I find that "true believers" get outraged when people don't tout the party line. Airborne needs to run clinical studies at least as rigorous as well-established cold studies. Go ahead use it; but meanwhile what I need right now is a cup of hot tea.

Customer Review: One of the biggest scams on earth
Summary: 1 Stars

Oprah promoted this stuff just like she promoted "A Million Little Pieces" and it's just as much of a scam. I used this stuff religiously for months and months while I kept getting sick and it did *nothing*. I continued to get sick, and worse, the ridiculous amount of herbs and vitamins in here gave me an upset stomach and diarrhea. I stuck with it though, truly believing it would help. It tastes awful and has no scientific evidence for actually curing anything. Cold-Eeze works, plain and simple. This stuff - with all of its hype - does not. Also note, the amount of Vitamin C in here is actually dangerous. Taking over 500 mg of C in 1 day actually CAUSES oxidation and cancer - it doesn't act as an anti-viral. Do I wish I had the marketing genius to perpetuate such a ridiculous product and become a muli-millionaire? Yes. However, I have slightly more ethics than this "school teacher" who created this thing.

Customer Review: A doctors opinion

Quickly and succinctly, unless you are deficient in zinc (which this product provides), it will not help you overcome or prevent an infection. Fluids are always helpful, however even if you believe huge doses of vitamin C are helpful, you can buy these and zinc for much cheaper. Echinacea may be helpful in transiently boosting your immune system, and I at times take this in the form of a capsule or tea. All in all, this product is overpriced, and essentially useless. Sorry to burst any bubbles, and the whole school teacher thing is a bunch of bs.
