I had back surgery in December '09 (fusion of L5-S1 & microsurgery for herniation at L3). After the surgery, I had a big problem sitting at my desk, on the couch, in the car - everywhere. I tried sitting on pillows, propping pillows behind my back and still my butt and particularly the site of the incision just above the tailbone were very sore. I was flipping through the channels one day and saw the infomercial on the Back Joy. What drew my attention to it was that little bump out in the back which I thought would be good for that sore incision area, so I decided to order one for myself and I also ordered on for my husband who does alot of driving and had a cushion in the car for his butt (he doesn't have the "padding" I do in that area). Well, this thing really works for both of us. I can sit at my desk all day long and I'm not sore and there's no pressure on the incision area and keeps me sitting in the correct position. My husband doesn't have to stop and stretch when he makes his one long trip a month - where he used to have to get out of the car once or twice previously. In fact he's on his second business trip in 2 weeks to conferences in Texas and he brought his Back Joy with him. We heading off to California from Florida in a few weeks and we'll both be bringing our Back Joys with us. I don't know if using this would have eliminated my need for back surgery, but it's sure made my recuperation much easier.Customer Review: It is just what I needed

I have a desk job. I work in three different offices, and all of the chairs are uncomfortable; every night, I had muscle pain in my legs and my back hurt from sitting in those chairs all day. A friend suggested the Back Joy. I checked it out on-line, but the description sounded too good to be true. And $50 seemed like a lot of money for such a low-tech device. But because my legs and back hurt so much, I ordered one and paid extra for faster shipping. I got it four weeks ago.
When I started using it, my legs felt better the first day. After several days, my back felt a lot better, and now, I have no pain even after a long day. I tried it at home, but I have soft comfortable chairs at home, and I mostly sit in my recliner, which does not lend itself to using the Back Joy. Then one day I forgot to bring it to work with me and I really felt the difference that night -- my legs were killing me.
Now, I just leave it in my car in the driver's seat, which is also more comfortable with the Back Joy -- I can drive longer without getting leg or back pain. I take it in to the office and use it all day, then put it back in the car. When I go to meetings in the community, I bring it in and use it there, too. It works best in hard chairs; I can now sit in plastic chairs for long meetings, without discomfort. It is worth the price.

I have struggled with a massively herniated disc for a year and had a microdiscectomy 6 months ago. The pain and interruption of daily life has been reducing gradually every week since my surgery--there is hope, for those of you reading this who are afraid it doesn't get better, it just takes time and lots of care and patience--but one of my challenges is of course sitting. I have only been using the BackJoy for a couple of days but it is the best option I have tried so far. With back pillows and such that you stick behind your back, you're forcing the arch--sometimes more than necessary, I think--but the pillow is pushing at your back, which for me has led to a lot of stiffness and nagging pain. This is of course better than the alternative, which is agony, but with the BackJoy I feel like my arch is more natural, relaxed, sustainable, and just comfortable all around. I used it all day for one day at work so far and I noticed even when I was walking around that my back felt different, most importantly LESS PAIN.
I highly recommend giving this product a shot. It's reasonably priced, easy to use--it's so basic you'll feel like you're missing something, but the important thing is that you feel better. Good luck, I hope it continues to provide relief as my back improves.

I've been using BackJoy for over a year. Having had a desk job for my entire career, BackJoy has made the hours in front of my computer so much more bearable. Before, I suffered from horrible posture and tight shoulders--I don't feel these common aches and pain anymore.
However, I decided to write a review after I tweaked my back and experienced the relief that BackJoy was able to provide. I knew that the "cushion" helped me sit taller and much more comfortably, but I didn't know how profound this effect would be until after my injury. The only way I could bear to sit was with a BackJoy.
Whether you're suffering from intense pain or simply want to alleviate the stress of long-term sitting, I would recommend this product. *Please be sure to read the instructions carefully.* I think misuse has been the primary reason why others haven't been satisfied. It's really important to scoot yourself back on the cushion as far as you can so the curved back actually scoops your rear. You'll feel when you're in the sweet spot.

I've always experienced back discomfort and stiffness when sitting at a computer or driving for long periods of time. The BackJoy was recommended to me
by my physical therapist wife who suggested that it might be well-suited for posture correction and stress reduction. She was absolutely right! The BackJoy
has absolutely eliminated pain and stiffness and is very effective as a postural support orthotic. I can't say enough good things about it. I have two now and
will soon be purchasing a third and fourth so I will never be without one. They fit perfectly in my briefcase and I take them to meetings daily where people
who try them seem to have the same positive results I have. Additionally, it is important to point out that they are indestructible. Mine have survived frigid
temperatures, collapsing car seats and playful puppies. All in all, the BackJoy is incredible and cannot be recommended enough!
