Customer Reviews of Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages, Tough-Strips, Extra Large (1.75-Inch Wide), 10-Count Bandages (Pack of 6)

Customer Review: Works great for active people
Summary: 5 Stars

I am a serious runner (1200 miles a year) and occasionally take a spill when I am on an uneven surface. My knee recently got a large scrape that required an extra large bandage. I used this product for several reasons:

1. It is easy to apply ointment to this bandage, and easy to apply this bandage to your skin.

2. This adheres very well, and as another review notes, stretches with your skin. The knee is a very tricky area for any bandage because every time you stand up or sit down you move your knee. I have had other bandages come off after repeated movement, but not this one. I probably sit at my desk then get up then sit back down, etc. more than a dozen times a day, but this bandage stays in place.

3. After the scrape started to heal, I went running, which meant that I was constantly flexing my knee. This bandage stayed perfectly in place.

However, before you use this, keep the following in mind:

1. For a large scrape or cut that is "oozing," I use a waterproof bandage because nothing leaks through, as will happen with this bandage (this is not a defect, just a normal characteristic of any non waterproof bandage when dealing with large cuts or scrapes). That is what I did for the first few days after I got the scrape on my knee.

2. The adhesive on this is very strong, so if you put it on an area of skin that has hair, you will definitely pull some hairs out when you remove it. Ouch!

Bottom line: This works great for active people so long as you don't use it on a large cut or scrape that is "oozing" (which may leak through) or on an area with lots of hair.

Thankfully we don't have to use too many bandages around our house but then that posed a problem since I was supposed to review the Band-Aid Extra-Large Tough Strips. So I got a knife and cut myself (just a little bit, enough to test the product.. oops, too much. Good thing this is an extra-large size). Okay, just kidding. I opened one to test it, even though I had no cut.

Like the other reviewers have said, this is a good bandage. My preference has always been for the Band-Aid brand, because I've found their quality to be better than the other brands. Not only with the bandage itself, but with the wrappers and the peel-off part covering the adhesive. These seem like trivial things but they do make a difference. I've had bandages that were frustrating when trying to open them cleanly.

These Band-Aids are easy to open, easy to peel. As for the Band-Aid itself, it's a good product. The fabric is flexible and the adhesive sticky so it stays on the skin (as opposed to stiffer bandages that don't move with your body or skin, or ones with not-so-good adhesive). The elasticity is great. I also like how there is adhesive on all sides of the gauze which helps protect the wound by sealing all sides. It is also waterproof. This is a Band-Aid that is made to last! I am very happy to have these; I just hope not to have to use them very often.

Customer Review: When it absolutely, positively has to stay put

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This is one of those products that comes along every now and again that works as intended and is far and away better than any other brand.
It is not intended for everyone given the super sticky material so those with delicate or sensitive skin should avoid using this product.
It is large (1 3/4 X 4 inches long) and is waterproof and will virtually stay in place for as long as one would or should keep it on the wound. Being waterproof means it also will keep out dirt and other harmful materials and allow the wound to heal faster. I do volunteer animal rescue work and experience my share of cuts, bites, and other forms of wounds requiring a strong band aid and have found these to be the very best on the market. They are a bit pricey but if you have ever experienced band aids peeling off or coming loose while doing work you will realize this is a first rate product and as such comes a bit more expensive than others of inferior workmanship.
Band Aid has a good reputation but has had their share of products that did not measure up to their claims. This is one that is all they claim it to be and more. If you are looking for a Band Aid that will stay put and allow the wound to heal while you get on with your work, play, etc. this is the one for you. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: Really Strong - Best for Large Joints
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I find this bandage to be an excellent product for use on the joints. The adhesive is indeed very strong, probably twice as strong as a regular bandage, and the fabric does seem to be a bit thicker than the normal Band-Aid. It has a non stick pad, and uses the "fabric" construction, which makes the bandage much more flexible than the plastic type. The pad is large enough in width such that the side edges are actually pretty small, about 1/4 inch. Because of the relatively small side adhesive, I found that on my elbow the bandage had to crinkle up so much that it let in some air, but for a larger area (especially the knee), it would be very good - probably the best I've seen. Just be prepared for some effort to get it off - it is that strong!

Note that the bandage is not quite as pictured on the box - it is longer so that the ends really stick. I was actually a bit surprised at the somewhat smaller size of the pad compared to the overall size of the bandage; I would expect to use more than one on a large cut. There are other options from Band-Aid that have larger pads, but would not be as secure in a "flex" situation.

Summary: If you need a bandage for the knees or other areas that flex a lot, this is the one to use. Highly recommended.

Customer Review: I eat, I cook, I cut myself, I need these. So do you.

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Perhaps it's absurd to get enthused over bandages, but the Band-Aid Tough Strips are just great. Most of the times I need bandages are because of cooking accidents, and they always seem to be in awkward places - around a knuckle, on a weird spot on my hand, on the tip of my ear. (OK, not that last one, just wanted to see if you were paying attention) Now in the store you may well be tempted by cheaper brands, since genuine Band Aid (and especially the Though-strip ones) are rather expensive. But they cost more because they actually work as intended, and that means you put one on and it stays put all day. The problem with lesser bandages is that they slip - they don't stick well to themselves, so if there's any movement at all they fall off. I often ended up using 4-5 per day, whereas with the Band Aid, I put one on in the morning and it usually lasts all day.

Band Aid seems to have found a combination of textured, breathable material and strong adhesive that no one else can match, and that's evident in this product. These are big boys, and offer excellent coverage of medium cuts and scrapes. A dab of Neosporin and these are all you need for most cuts. Highly recommended, especially for the klutzy cook.
