One of the surprises for new distance runners is that shoes and clothing which never caused chafing will cause a world of pain as training runs get longer. It is, therefore, wise to lubricate one's feet and any other areas which one discovers are problematic, areas which are different for each person. Sport lubricants in a tube, or even Vaseline or the lubricants made for other purposes, such as KY, may work fine, but then must be washed off one's hands (and are therefore not ideal for reapplying during a run, although at some marathons the medical tents will offer Vaseline on a popsicle stick).
Band Aid Brand Friction Block is not the first solid body lubricant made for this purpose, so to determine if it was any different from the brand I already had I used this product on one foot and the other on the other foot before a long training run. I had no blisters or hot spots on either foot at the end of the run, so each did its job.
Two differences: the Band Aid Brand has a scent. You may or may not like it. The bigger difference is in the packaging: this small applicator is ideal for tucking away in a fanny pack or running belt for when "hot spots" develop during a run. The cap goes all the way down so the package will not accidentally open in a pocket or backpack.
