Customer Review: Its About time

Its about time that one of the meter makers finally joined the twenty first century by introducing a meter with true USB connectivity. Not something that uses expensive adapters and antique technology, but something that lets you plug it directly into a USB port. My guess is that they have probably figured all along that seniors, who constitute a significant portion of diabetics (think Wilford Brimley and his diabetes supplies commercials)are far to technotardish to use a computer, much less use one to monitor their diabetes. Well guess what....there is a whole generation of people--myself being one of them--who not only appreciate the advantages and value of using a computer, but also base their buying decisions on the ability of manufacturers to give it to them.
This blood glucose meter does just that. You stick your finger, you put the blood on the strip, and you get a reading.......just like every other meter on the market. But it takes the process a step further by letting you plug the meter into your computer and saving all the data there. My only criticism is that they oversell its ability to automatically bring up the software as soon as you plug it in. Yeah, it does that, but only if you have XP.......not Windows 7. Couple that with the fact that their website is very user-unfriendly, and you had best be fairly web-savvy and tenatious if you want to find the patch there that restores at least some of the features. Either that or call their tech support and have them give you the link. Bottom line is that they need to hire some software people who know how to work with the Windows 7 plug and play.
Do I recommend this item? Absolutely! Just be aware that you may have to take a few extra steps if you want it to work to your expectations if you have W7 as your OS.
