I know from experience that if you go to the ER with chest pains, most of the time they will have you chew an aspirin. It helps stop clots that cause heart attacks and the chest pain caused by clots in the heart arteries.
The powdered form of aspirin gets into your bloodstream quickly. We keep these around as cheap insurance. If My wife or I get a suspicious chest pain, we immediately take one of these powdered aspirin. If it's acid indigestion it won't help but you can then take a Tums for that. Otherwise, the aspirin in this form acts within a couple of minutes.
I do not reccomend self treatment for heart conditions. You need to follow up on this - possibly immediately. But it can potentially save your life and is good insurance to keep on hand at home, in the car, and at work.
The only negative is that the foil envelopes do not tear open easily so keep something nearby to clip off one end of the package when you need to open it.
