I'd seen bidets on my travels abroad, but never used them since I didn't know how. Since then, I heard that bidets were considerably more environmental than traditional methods, so I thought I'd see what it was all about.
As of now, I'm a total convert. Everyone is America should be using bidets, and the Bidanet would be the perfect device to start. Here are the big wins, in my personal order of priority:
1) You walk away from the bathroom totally clean.
2) You use a fraction of the paper you used to use (and only to dry).
3) There's almost zero risk of getting anything on your hands during cleanup (ick!)
It does take some getting used to, and the idea seems foreign at first. But if you think about it, having water doing the bulk of the cleanup makes total sense.
I'm sold on the Bidanet, since it has everything you need in a bidet and nothing you don't need. Eliminating all the fancy dials and warm-water hookups makes this very affordable, without sacrificing any of the features you need in a bidet. It fits on both standard two-piece and wider one-piece toilet tank, and the knob gives you plenty of control of the water jet.
Installation is really the only trick, as mentioned in other reviews. On the plus side, you don't need to totally remove the toilet seat as with other bidets. You only need to loosen the seat enough to slide the Bidanet into place. However, working with the Teflon tape can be tricky, since it doesn't really like to lay flat as you wrap it around the threads. You need to use it on every threaded joint (except the spout that sits in the bowl), so wrap and tighten as much of it as you can before putting it into position.
One thing I found handy was ignoring their instructions to only hand-tighten all joints. When you're on the floor and reaching back, it can be hard to get things as tight as if they're right in front of you on a table. I did a full assembly with hand-tightened joints, and it leaked when I turned on the full pressure. I took it all apart, re-taped all the threads, and tightened the joints an extra 1/4 turn with pliers (not too much, though; it's just plastic), to make sure I was biting into the Teflon tape. After that, no leaks.
The unit comes with two spouts: a single stream and a 5-hole spray head. I find the single stream gets me cleaner, but the spray works well too. Give yourself some time to get used to it. The name of the game is "targeting": the first few times you may either find yourself missing, or that you have the pressure to low to get clean. After a week you should have the hang of it, and shortly after that you'll look back on the old days with disbelief that you did this any other way.
You'll see lots of other fancy bidets when you search, but this is really all you need.
