Customer Reviews of BioBrite Sunrise Clock Junior, Light BlueCustomer Review: Great Idea Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased this clock so that my 2 1/2 year old would know when it was morning and that it was okay to get out of bed. It is working really well, which is FIVE STARS to me!
Customer Review: Compare with Advanced Biobrite Summary: 4 Stars
We purchased two Biobrite sunrise clocks: a "Junior" for our preschooler, and an "Advanced" for ourselves (and there is quite a price difference). Overall, we love them both and would absolutely recommend. However, unlike the Advanced model, the brightness of the clock display on the Junior is not dimmable, and it is VERY bright (although obviously the sunrise light itself IS dimmable). We have put some black electrical tape across the display- our daughter does not read yet anyway- and this has solved it (until she starts caring about what time it is). The Advanced model has a dimmable display, which we definitely utilize. The one thing the Junior has that the Advanced does not is the "ray" formation of the sunrise, and the stars/moon etching on the bulb cover. And of course, it's less expensive. Maybe some kind of light blue film over the display might help, too. If I had known earlier, I might have purchased two Juniors instead!
Customer Review: Helps my boys know when they can get up. Summary: 4 Stars
Pros
- made it very easy for my boys to know when they can get up without needing to be able to tell time.
- Bedtime setting (gradual decrease in light) helps signify when time to sleep. My boys have to race against the clock to brush teeth, and get an extra story. If they poke around and the clock runs down then no extra story for them.
Cons
- LED numbers very bright and I have to cover up with a sock so room is not too bright at night.
- Changing the time and setting the alarm can not be done without the directions.
Customer Review: Owned BioBrites for years, there's better options now Summary: 3 Stars
I've owned BioBrites for many years, since I first spotted it at Sharper Image probably 20 years ago. I've always paid the big prices fairly reluctantly, because though an incredibly valuable addition to one's wake-up process, the proprietary light bulbs and high cost have always seemed unreasonable.
Cut to: Homedics SS-5500 SoundSpa Radiance AM/FM Alarm Clock with Time Projection, Light, Sound and Timer, which at about $30, maybe $40 after shipping, includes a separate hookup into which you can plug your own light fixture, and connects remotely to the base unit. Add to that the lovely but optional volume-controllable selection of soothing sounds (which I love -- ocean, summer night, rain, waterfall, and more), a decent am/fm radio, and the completely flexible ability to wake up to any combination of the sounds and/or light, to select from either 15 or 30 minutes for the lights to take to brighten towards the set wake-up time (with the audio coming on in the last 5 minutes towards your wake-up time), and selecting as needed 15, 30, 45, or 60 minutes of timed dimming as going to sleep (I especially like this as there is usually 60 minutes between when I and my he get into bed and when we actually will want to fall asleep and I think you know what I'm talking about) -- you really cannot beat the value or feature selection.
Actually, in between frustration with repeated BioBrite purchases and cost, I'd halfway simulated the above Homedics experience with the use of standard timer units, but the Homedics feature selection really can't be beat.
The BioBrite products work well until they break, but the flexibility offered by the Homedics product is something they should have provided themselves a long time ago, knowing their audience; so I've not much sympathy for the continued price point after so many years of overpaying.
