I purchased my armband and subscription to the bodymedia website through Jenny Craig.
I had been on the Jenny Craig program for 4 months with a few plateaus lasting a couple weeks that were maddening since I am a very strict follower of any program I am on. What was missing was the data!
Now that I've had the armband for a couple weeks, I'm able to KNOW when my activity needs to be increased to meet my target calorie deficit of 1000 calories per day to achieve my 2 pounds per week weight loss goal!
I can go for an activity, like hiking in the woods near my house, come back and sync my armband and know how many calories I burned doing that activity! I have learned that my body burns more calories walking in my hilly neighborhood than it does on a stationary bicycle, and have changed some of my workout routines based on the data I have been able to review on this device.
I also like the fact that Jenny Craig foods are preloaded into the foods database, and that I can add foods to be used over and over, including whole recipies. Yes, its kinda a pain when you discover something you've eaten isn't already in the food list in the application, but once you've entered the food data (by copying key data from the food label) you never have to enter it again. Its saved for your re-use from then on. Since I have my routine products I buy in addition to my Jenny Craig cuisine, this has made meal logging very very simple and quick for me. All those "free" foods I eat on Jenny Craig are also counted in my total calories eaten, so I know truly how many calories I've consumed, and if I see I'm trending up, I can cut back a little on my last meal or evening snack to stay on track for my 1000 calorie deficit goal per day.
I have no complaints really at all, except that the 'activity log' only counts moderate to intense activity. So folding the laundry, loading the dishwasher, etc (stuff that really doesn't elevate your heartrate) isn't counted as "activity" for that measure. However, in your calories burned data, you can see the spike showing you are burning more than you would be if you were just sitting, so in the end, its not a big complaint.
This isn't for the person that doesn't want to put a little work into logging their foods. I log on a couple times a day to log in my food so that I can make decisions in support of my goal as my day moves into the late afternoon and evening. It's part of my commitment to myself, and it gives me so much power!
I'm consistently losing 2 to 4 pounds per week so far since starting to use this armband in conjunction with my Jenny Craig program. I would recommend this to anyone that is really serious about getting to understand how their body is responding to different foods / activities and routines!
I'll be adding the accessory clip on monitor as soon as they become available (looks like Feb 11) so that I can watch my calorie burn without having to sync my armband with a USB cable as often throughout the day. I'm purchasing THAT accessory via Amazon.com, and will leave a review of that product once I've had a chance to try it out!
