Like most members of the Amazon Vine Program who requested the Bounce Dryer Bar, I was reluctant to use the product after reading so much negative publicity. However, because my dryer is twenty-two years old, I decided to try it. After two weeks of using the product, I have posted my review in order to inform potential customers that the product is safe to use. In the future, I will post any problems that I may encounter. Also, I will report how long the bar lasts before I had to replace it. Here is my review as it currently stands:
On January 21, 2010, I ordered the Bounce Dryer Bar from the Amazon Vine Program. On the 27th, I received the dryer bar. A strong, flowery scent was seeping through the thick cardboard shipping box. It smelled nice. I removed the bar, which was already installed within its plastic holder (2 ¼" X 6 ¾"), and noticed that it was like an unwrapped cake of white soap with the word "bounce" branded upon it. The package contained a sheet of paper with the following title: New Installation & Replacement Instructions for your Bounce Dryer Bar. (I scanned a copy and posted it on the Amazon web site.) Perhaps the previous instructions were inadequate and these are improved to prevent the plastic holder from becoming detached during the dryer's operation.
I tried to follow the instructions as best as possible. Using a clean washcloth and Bath & Body Works Anti-Bacterial Gentle Foaming Hand Soap, I thoroughly cleaned the entire area between two fins. Let me say that my Kenmore dryer is twenty-two years old and has given me great service throughout the years. Even though it is relatively old, I don't want to have to buy a new one. Therefore, I was apprehensive about using the new Bounce Dryer Bar, especially after reading some negative reviews about how it had stained clothes and actually destroyed one brand new dryer. After cleaning the dryer drum, I waited thirty minutes before peeling back the paper backing on the bar holder and firmly pressing it onto the dryer drum. I tried to center it perfectly between the two fins and between the door and the rear of the dryer. In lieu of fifteen seconds, I firmly pressed down for two minutes. I didn't want to risk the bar holder coming off and producing a mess.
I waited two days before I washed and dried my first load of clothes. I wanted to give the adhesive backing enough time to dry before applying heat to it. Furthermore, I would like to say that I only put undergarments, towels, pajamas and bed sheets inside the dryer - never anything expensive or delicate for fear of shrinkage or damage. You never know when a pen or crayon might be inside a pocket. When trying the Bounce Dryer Bar for the first time, I recommend using undergarments or towels. Those are easily replaceable.
On January 30th, I washed one load of towels and one load of undergarments. Both of them were put inside the dryer. Both loads emerged smelling mildly fragrant with no static and no streaking. On February 1st, I noticed that my laundry room smelt fresher and cleaner. I attributed that to the installation of the Bounce Dryer Bar. On February 5th, I washed bed sheets, two pairs of bright colored pajamas and a host of dark socks. When I took them out of the dryer, they smelled fresh, there was no static cling and there were no unsightly white streaks. I was quite pleased.
I recommend this product for people who are tired of using Bounce Dryer Sheets. Perhaps you are an adventurous consumer like me and want to try something new. I like the idea of not having to throw a dryer sheet into the laundry and then have to find it sticking to one of my towels or hiding inside a pair of underwear. The Bounce Dryer Bars are definitely more convenient. As a bonus, the bar has caused my small, closet-size laundry room to smell fresh and clean. Before the bar, it was smelling a little musty. I strongly suggest that when installing the dryer bar that one allows it to sit a few days before drying a load of clothes. This will allow the adhesive ample time to dry so that the plastic holder doesn't come off.
