Customer Review: Very happy -- Best for upper lips and underarms

I love this Braun epilator! It is my 2nd epilator (the first one was the Emjoi AP-9L Epi Slim which I didn't love). I have been using this product for about 5 months now and I would love to share with you my experience with this great epilator!
It comes with 3 detachable heads:
1) Shaver head with OptiTrim attachment
(I totally forgot that it came with a shaver head until I started writing this review. It don't think many people use it but I guess it's not a bad thing to have around. I have never used it myself).
2) Active massaging rollers - "massaging rollers stimulate the skin with micro-impulses before and after epilation"
(I only used it the first time because it says that it'll "massage" your skin. But I think that it just gets in the way of faster removal of hair)
3) EfficiencyPro clip - "provides a thorough epilation that is now even faster. It ensures maximum skin contact at the optimum usage position thus enabling more effective hair removal".
(This is not a clipper as I had initially thought when I was doing my research...it's just a head thing you put on the epilator and this is the only thing I am using with this epilator.)
I have used it on my leg, underarms, bikini, and upper lips. I'm going to go over each body part separately because the hair is so different for me (thickness and how fast it grows).
My Legs - I probably need to shave my legs a 2-3 times a week. My leg hair is kind of thin and sparse to begin with but I do have black hair so it is noticeable (at least to me) when I don't shave for more than a week. My first time using the epilator - I let my leg hair grow out for a little over a week (maybe like 10 days). I took a warm shower as some other reviewers suggested. My gosh, the first time was very painful but tolerable that I was able to finish both my legs. It did take me about 40 minutes the first time because it was pretty painful so I couldn't go as fast. I was very, very happy with the results. My legs were super smooth and I didn't have to worry about hair removal for at least a week. A week later I tried again and I was shocked to see that it hurt a lot less...I couldn't believe that I had already gotten used to the pain, plus it took half the time (20 minutes) to get all the hair out. By this time I had discovered that EfficiencyPro clip head was much more efficient than the rolling massaging head. My hair was even thinner than before. After about 4 months of using this, I had gotten a bit lazier with my leg hair. It still takes me at least 15 minutes to do both legs. I think the reason is that my leg hair is so light that I can't see them and I have to look at my legs closely to make sure I get every little hair. Because it does take me 15-20 minutes (which is a long time if you have a busy schedule like me), I have recently started shaving my legs again because it takes me less than a minute to shave.
My underarms - This area is a whole other story!!! The hair on my underarm is totally different from my leg hair. When I was shaving, I had to shave every single day. I have dark, coarse underarm hair (and I have a lot of it). 12 hours after shaving, I usually have a 5 o'clock shadow. Sometimes I would pluck my underarm hair and I always loved the results but it just took forever to do. When I discovered this epilator, it was a dream come true! Because I was so used to plucking my underarm hair, it didn't hurt at all to use the epilator on this area! It takes about a couple runs over the same area to remove the hair. It takes about a minute or two to do both underarms. This is how I used it: First time, I let my underarm hair grow out for two days (it wasn't a pretty sight!). I used the epilator and as I've mentioned already, it was not painful at all. The next day when I took a shower, I accidently grabbed my shaver as a reflex (I've been shaving my underarm for like 15 years every single day)...then I realized that i didn't have to shave anymore!!! On the third day, I noticed that some of the underarm hair had started to sprout already. By the fourth day, I had to use the epilator again. And that has been my pattern for the last 5 months...every 3-4 days I will use the epilator for my underarm. I have not shaved my underarms since I got this epilator. I'm loving the freedom of not shaving every day! Using this epilator hasn't made my underarm hair any thinner like it did with my leg hair.
My Bikini area - I wax (myself) in this area. I have thick, coarse, dark hair in this area so shaving is not an option (unless I want to shave everyday...which I don't want to do). I thought that it was pretty painful the first time I used the epilator even though I'm used to waxing my bikini area. I have not gotten the nerve to do a complete Brazilian bikini hair removal with this epilator (I'm not that brave...yet). I have to say that this does a good job in removing the hair...but I do end up with more ingrown hair than with waxing (which other reviewers have commented about). I guess with waxing, it removes the the dead outer layer of the skin so it does exfoliate the skin but with epilating, it just removes the hair so you have to remember to do extra exfoliating before and after using your epilator. I use Tend Skin to help prevent and treat ingrowns and I have to use it more frequently when using the epilator. I think I prefer waxing over epilating but in this case, epilating takes less time so I tend to epilate my bikini area. Unlike my legs, it is still relatively painful (not as painful as the first time) but I guess my skin is more sensitive in this area. I use the epilator maybe twice a month on my bikini area. I'm not so overly concerned about being hairless in this area.
Upper lips - I used to wax once a week. My upper lip hair is relatively thin and sparse but I do have black hair. Epilation with Braun has completely replaced waxing. I tried Emjoi AP-9L Epi Slim Cosmetic Hair Remover but it could not get the tiny, thin hair out. With this Braun epilator, it removes the tiniest hair, even the ones that are barely sprouting out of the skin. It takes about a minute or two to remove everything. I use the epilator once a week on this area and that's all I need. I don't get ingrowns (never have) on my upper lips.
As you can see, overall I have had a positive experience with this epilator and I totally recommend this to anyone! One annoying thing about this is that the cord gets tangled very easily...but that's not super important. Maybe the next time I get an epilator, I might get the cordless ones but for now, I'm happy with this Braun epilator!
