The Braun Epilator is my new best friend! Ok so I was at my wits end with shaving. I am hypoallergenic and you wouldn't believe how much of a pain that makes hair removal; I know it's a pain enough for the average woman but my skin is so sensitive that I loathe the thought of having to shave. I was skeptical to try and epilator but it was getting to the point where shaving wasn't an option any longer and waxing was too much work for too much money. I read as many reviews as I could find, and did my research. This epilator ended up looking like the most bang for my buck... so I went ahead and decided to give it a try. I used it for the first time last night thinking I was going to be disappointed with yet another failure. On my first go I tried it on the "Slow" setting and with the massage head (this is supposed to be easier and not hurt as much). To my amazement it didn't hurt at all! And it pulled the hairs out like magic! So, without blinking an eye I put on the "Expert" head and used the high setting. EASY! I said out loud, "I'm never going to have to shave again!" And I was so excited I called my best friend to tell her about my incredible new find. I'm even so happy with this I am getting her one for her birthday. So, here's the breakdown: don't get me wrong, it does feel like every hair is being plucked out of your skin but it's really not bad at all. If you are reading this review you are probably as fed up with hair removal as I was and this is your answer! Don't let the idea that it may hurt sway you in the slightest! It's nothing you can't get used to, and ladies if you are reading this and you've ever gotten a tattoo this is completely doable!!! It is NOTHING in comparison. And to those of you that don't know what that feels like still listen to me when I say that you can use this product. I also like that it comes with a ladies shaver head too, so you really are getting the most for your money. Try it! I bet you'll be wishing you had found it sooner. I'd give it 10 stars if I could. This device has been a lifesaver for me. I am too much of a chicken to go to a salon; however, with a little trial and error, I've learned to do the epilation everywhere, even on bikini and underarm. My smooth skin gives me so much confidence, and it does not hurt a bit anymore.
If you are a chicken like me, follow my instructions instead of the manual, provided you are willing to invest a lot of time initially. I said initially, because, after a couple of months, the pain will subside and you'll be able to do it any way you want, while watching TV or lulling your baby to sleep. (Yes, the sound does soothe the baby! Consider that an unadvertized perk.)
So here is how to start.
1) Take a long, hot bath.
2) Shave. If you are persistent, that's the last time you ever will.
3) Use SilkEpil on just shaved skin. Yes, there will be hardly any results, but there won't be any pain either, and your muscles will relax; it's important to get into the habbit or relaxing while epilating, reduces the pain greatly.
4) Repeat next day (except, of course, no shaving). Heck, repeat later same day. You will achieve the results gradually while staying within your comfort zone as far as the pain goes. Do it every day until you feel in control, then gradually reduce the time interval between epilations to up to a month.
5) When you begin feeling pain on one leg, switch to the other. Somehow that reduces the pain.
6) Use long, quick strokes until you are comfortable.
7) Holding the device so that it rotates in the direction of the hair growth makes the process much more gentle on you and more time cosuming.
8) If you feel like giving up at any point, remember the 2nd epilation will be nothing like the first; the 3rd will be a breeze.

This product is amazing. I got my mom's old epilady about ten years ago, used it a few times and never went back to it again. This is nothing like that...it's a great alternative to any hair removing system. It is less costly than waxing (much less), it leaves body smooth, hair grows back finer and much less often than shaving, it's easy to do, not messy and can be done anywhere. I had to shave my legs every day and I still would always feel little stubbles here and there....this leaves my legs so much smoother. I used to be a waxer when it came to other areas of the body...this is by far much less costly and messy. (for utter mess-free, put a towel underneath you when epiladying as recommended by a user below and that'll take care of the little hairs so they don't go everywhere!).
As far as the pain is concerned, I was very hesitant due to my experience w/ the old (80's style) epilady, yet found this to be so much less painful than waxing. The trick for the underarm is to hold it at a perfect 90 degree angel and get the hairs the first and second time through so you don't have to keep going over the same area...because of loose skins, it is more sensitive. I use it for my legs, underarms and outer bikini area. It all seems less painful than waxing and you almost don't even feel anything after a couple of minutes. (in some ways it's pleasant due to the massaging feeling :p)
The light is definitely a great feature...it is very helpful especially when bright light is not available. It shines on the area being epilated and aids w/ getting "every hair"! I haven't used the other heads yet but they seem like good additions for those who are interested.
My only complain is the directions...I either didn't get the full thing or there aren't any! Thankfully, I have a pretty good idea and managed fine w/out them.
This is a great product and is definitely not comparable to its older cousin!! It works wonders and I look forward to the upcoming summer months! Definitely a must have.

Few months ago, I was on Amazon about to buy another crate of waxing strips when this little product caught my eye (thanks to a well placed ad). I am so happy with it that I just had to write a review, which is not something I often do. First and foremost, it works - it is faster, easier, cheaper, less painful and more efficient than waxing. I used to wait a few weeks between waxings to let the hairs grow out in order to get more bang out of a waxing session, and this would mean having to wear long pants and avoiding pool pretty often. Well, no more - now I use the epilator for 15 minutes once a week and never have any noticeable hair. It gets every little hair, I find that even short hairs get zapped efficiently. The light feature is very helpful. In fact, I started epilating my upper legs which used to have thin hair, and now they are actually coming in thicker (or maybe I just see them better with the light). So maybe hold the urge to epilate everything in sight. In terms on pain, I found it to be similar or even less painful than waxing, but I am a long time waxer. It has a special massaging attachment and two speeds to ease you into it, but I did not find those necessary. I have to pass each area several times, but it will get every single hair. Again it is much faster than waxing and there is no mess. The downsides as other people have mentioned is that it is pretty loud so you can't watch TV as you are epilating, and it has to be plugged in (no battery option), but in fact the cord is sufficiently long. Also I did notice a few more ingrown hairs since I started using it, but I should probably just exfoliate more often. I use it in the bikini area - and I define the bikini area as the upper thigh area up to the leg crease, I don't go any further. It is a bit more painful and cumbersome to navigate in that area, but it gets the job done for the most part - I do have to touch up with tweezers. So despite these minor negatives, I give it five thumbs up!! Do not hesitate to buy it - it will set you free!!Customer Review: No Pain No Gain :)

I will rather take the one time pain of using this epilator, than deal daily with razors, bumps, itching and burns. Please remember, however, that the pain is relative to each person's perception and sensitivity. For a good reason I can take a lot of pain without a blink, but that is my subjective measure. On the other hand, this unit seems to produce much less discomfort than my old, spiral type, epilator.
Pain issue aside, this is really the best corded epilator/trimmer/shaver I can find on the market. Does a great job from face to foot, quickly and cleanly. I even use it for a quick touch up of my head hair line. With a regular use the re-growth becomes slower and weaker. For the beginners it is important to use it several times during the first about two weeks. That is to catch up with hair re-growing after previous shavings or other treatments. Once your body is free of hair, a touch up now and then is all you will need for a long time. Each consecutive treatment is less painful and less irritating, until you come to a point when the treatment feels more like a massage than hair removal. I even did my armpits - with a lot more discomfort (pain) than any other part of the body, but oh boy!, was it worth it. Not a single ingrown hair or bump like after shaving, no chemical irritation from lotions, no pealed skin cells from waxing. Just remember to use plenty of good quality moisturizer directly after the treatment to prevent skin redness and tingling. More sensitive skin will need several hours, maybe even a day or two to "cool off" before public appearance. It is very important to clean the unit VERY often - works and feels better. The cord is plenty long and the light is very useful. All the little attachments are very handy, especially for the initial treatments. Trim longer hair before pulling it - it is more effective and less irritating. Don't shave unless you absolutely must - hair after shaving grows back stronger and darker. Enjoy!
