Customer Reviews of Braun PocketGo P-70 Men's ShaverCustomer Review: Braun 370 Update - A Surprising Little Razor Summary: 5 Stars
I found this little gadget when my rotary-head Norelco razor was dropping hints of its impending demise and thought I'd pick up the Braun until I found another really good razor. I was surprised to find that the Braun 370 is a good razor. More than that, it's a really good razor.
Personal items like razors have a feel that some will find more or less to their liking and some people who've grown used to a rotary-head razor might not care for this foil head on the Braun. Most differences that I expected to find annoying in this device have proved easy to get used to.
First of all, this razor is much lighter and more compact than most, so it has a different heft, and it works best when held nearly perpendicular to the skin. It shaves as closely as my Norelco did, I believe, and is actually more comfortable. It has a slightly smaller shaving area and may not shave as quickly, but I don't think the difference is significant. The rotary-head Norelco was probably better at shaving a 3- or 4-day old beard, but the Braun has been perfectly fine for daily or every-other-day use. It runs on two AA batteries and I was glad to find that it works just as well on rechargeable AAs and gets about the same number of shaves on a charge that my Norelco did. Keeping a second set of batteries in my charger (or if I'm caught on a trip, dropping in a pair of disposables) means that I don't have to hunt for an electrical outlet in order to shave.
The Braun has a built-in trimmer which, because of its size, I expected to be relatively useless: it's only about a half-inch wide and slides out a half-inch from the body of the shaver. The Norelco's, by contrast, was both larger and extended farther. Again, I was wrong: the Braun's trimmer is effective and easy to use and, unlike that on the Norelco, has never nicked my skin. An odd characteristic is that the trimmer slides out easily but requires a stiff push to retract.
The built-in cover protects the shaving head when closed and swings open to unlock the on/off switch. It's an elegantly simple design. The razor also comes with a cleaning brush that clips into the bottom. The brush is really too small and when the shaver head is exposed, the cover blocks access to the brush; it's the only aspect of this design which seems awkward. The razor does not come with a case and probably doesn't need one. It does come with two AA alkaline batteries. I'd suggest getting a battery charger and a set of rechargeable AAs. Anyone buying this to replace an older razor might hang on to the old case and the cleaning brush as well.
In short, the simple, functional design of this little razor has won me over completely; I've had it for half a year, it hasn't skipped a beat, and I still like it. Braun calls it a travel razor; right now, it's my only razor. I had no major complaints about the series of expensive razors that preceded it, but this is just, all things considered, a better razor. I have given up looking for another expensive razor and have ordered a second Braun 370 to keep in my desk at work.

This little gem is still available from Amazon, which surprises me, because I worry that sooner or later Braun is going to decide that it's stealing sales from the company's more expensive razors and pull it off the market. Currently, Braun calls this a model P-70 but it appears to be identical to the 370. Even the packaging is the same. (A P-70 was also a World War II aircraft but as far as I am aware, that P-70 is not available from Amazon.)
It's been nearly a year since I first posted the remarks above on this razor and it's still buzzing away on rechargeable AA batteries. It hasn't missed a beat, I still like it, and it's still my only electric razor.
Two additional comments:
>> Braun calls this a "fully washable" travel razor. All I've ever done is remove the foil head and blow the hair out of the mechanism. I've never washed it, fully or otherwise. I've cleaned it out with the brush once or twice and once I oiled it. It still works great.
>> The manufacturer probably does not intend the razor to be knocked off a counter onto a tile floor as I did once. The foil screen popped out of the shaver head and it took me nearly a minute to set the screen back on the four pins that held it in place. It still works great, but that's not an exercise I would recommend.
I stand by everything I said a year ago. I've had my 370 a year and a half and it's still a great little razor.
