Customer Review: I'M never SHAVING again!

I purchased this Braun epilator a few months ago, and it was probably the best money I have ever spent, hands down!
At first, it was a little difficult to use pain-wise, but that factor quickly becomes irrelevant once you see your legs/underarm/bikini line smooth and hair free for so long!
The first time I did it, I cringed (A LOT) but got over it relatively quickly. Honestly, there is no need for the "pre-epilating wipes" or anything like that at all. Just simply exfoliate all over and don't put lotion on, the tweezers won't be able to grab it if the hair is that smooth. Second-make sure your hair is long enough to grab...but keep in mind that the longer the hair it, the more it seems to hurt as well!
Another hint: make yourself a nice glass of wine or have a cocktial or two prior to doing any of this (if you are of age, of course!) It definitely helps take the edge off, but I didn't tell you that! Also, avoid epilating for the first time if it is "that time of the month" if possible. You will be a lot more "aware" of the pain, and it definitely isn't a pleasant experience. I ordered numbing lotion, which has worked WONDERS, and really makes a huge difference.
Typically, I use a cotton ball to put the numbing lotion on so my hands don't go all numb as well. This is especially helpful when doing the bikini/underarm area. Keep in mind that the first time you do under your arms, it WILL hurt. There is simply no way of getting around this. Also, it is a good reminder to not use any deodorant for the next few days that will irritate your skin. You might notice small red bumps the first time you do it, and those will go away very soon, by the next day or so at the latest.
If you are planning on epilating for a special event, or something as such, I DO NOT recommend epilating the day before for the first time. Your skin WILL need time to adjust to this, and you need to get used to it as well. I can assure you that once you become accustomed to the feeling, it will go away rather soon, and even (dare I say) become a LOT less painful with each use.
I can proudly say that I have not used a single razor or shaving cream (or any other of those products for that matter) in roughly 6 months now. I notice that my entire body is a lot smoother, and I have to epilate less and less...
Legs: Approximately every 1.5-2 months
Under Arms: 2 months
Bikini: About once a month
You will also notice that the hair will start growing in finer and finer with each use. The reasoning is that when you shave, you are cutting the hair off at the top, as opposed to pulling it out at the root (like you do with epilating.) So basically when you epilate, the hair has to completely fill back in the follicle and that takes time. It grows in just like it is growing in for the first time, not "cut off" at the ends, as you do with shaving.
After epilating, I prefer to use a gel that prevents ingrown hairs from epilating, although I haven't had any real issues with this; it is pretty much a preventative step in which I am being overly-cautious. You can use any ingrown hair prevention step of your choice, although this is not necessary at all if you do not typically have a problem with this.
Keep the area clean (this should go without saying) and enjoy your long-lasting smooth legs/bikini/under arm area as long as you like! I know this product has flat out been amazing for me, and I'm MORE than happy I found it! I am currently in Iraq, and there aren't exactly a lot of "beauty options" of being out here, and it really makes a huge difference to feel like a girl again, and this gives you a lot less to worry about, and saves you a lot of time and money in the long run-much more than you would ever save on shaving, shaving creams, replacement razors, etc. Plus, even though it takes a little less time to shave, keep in mind that the little extra time you spend epilating will save you a lot of time from having to shave for quite awhile.
Let the hair grow out a bit prior to epilating, so the tweezers have enough to grab onto (a little less than you would for a waxing.) Here are some extra tips as well:
Legs: Brace yourself for some spots that are a little more sensitive than others (such as around the ankles, behind the knees, thighs, etc.) Some areas you may need to go over a few times, but be patient-it is completely worth it in the end!
Under Arms: This may seem a little strange, but bear with me: when epilating this part, do not go in just one direction. It has been my experience that the hair in this area DOES NOT grow in just one direction, so try running the epilator vertically both ways, as well as horizontally both ways to ensure you cover all angles. You might be surprised at the amount of hair you pick up while doing this that you didn't even know was there. This area will be sensitive, so take care when putting on deodorant. Do not use anything that is not to be used on "broken skin" as this is pretty much what your skin is considered right after you do this. You are literally ripping the hair from the follicle, (no matter how morbid that sounds!) so be careful. I made the mistake of using Certain Dri right after I epilated one time, and it was not a pleasant feeling.
Bikini: NOT FOR THE FAINT OF HEART! First of all, this was not an easy talk to complete; it takes patience, a threshold for pain that would rival any superhero, and a lot of practice. I recommend trimming the area prior to epilating to reduce pain, as well as taking a painkiller (aspirin, ibuprofen,etc) about an hour or two prior to ensure that the pain/swelling isn't as much as it would normally be.
This epilator comes with two settings, along with a detachable "head" that I have since thrown away due to never using it. They say that it helps "prepare" the hairs for epilation, but I haven't noticed a difference whatsoever and quite frankly-don't need it. I typically use the fasters setting to epilate, as I have gotten used to it by now, and it doesn't bother me at all. I do recommend that you start out on the first setting though, and gradually work your way up, keeping in mind the "no pain, no gain" phrase. I just like prefer the faster setting because it hurts a lot less now that I'm used to it, as well as makes the process go a lot faster as it grabs a lot more hairs that way.
One reviewer stated that you can't shave again after using this or you will get ingrown hairs: I can not comment on that, as I have not tried to shave after epilating-because I don't feel the need to. The epilator takes care of everything I need, therefore the need to shave anything is eliminated.
It also comes with a little 'cleaning brush' which I use quite a bit. You will notice after epilating an area with a lot of hairs that it "fills up" the inside-this is definitely good to keep clean, especially for sanitary reasons.
