When I first started dating my boyfriend two years ago, I was just using an alarm clock that had the white noise option on it - like a mini sound machine in order to help me fall asleep. But then I could hear when the sound would end and begin - it was subtle, but I could still hear it. So he was sweet enough to buy me this Brookstone sound machine. Because I stayed at his place sometimes and he stayed at mine sometimes, he actually bought two - one for his place and one for mine. It has 12 different selections, but White Noise is my favorite. The sound doesn't stop unless you want it to - there are time settings on it, so if you want it to stop after 30 minutes or an hour, you just push a button. It's not like a complicated alarm clock where you have to set a time. It's just a button at the top of the machine. If you want it to run all night through then you don't push any of the time buttons. The Thunderstorm option is good as well. My boyfriend couldn't really tolerate the White Noise so we compromised with the Thunderstorm. I have had insomnia since I graduated from graduate school - you would think I would develop it during graduate school. I guess being a real adult can do that do ya. So I discovered sound machines about 8 years ago. This one has been the best so far. It's even small enough to travel with. I absolutely love it.
