Customer Reviews of Charlie's Soap Powder - 2.64 lb (80 Loads)Customer Review: Blew my expectations away! Summary: 5 Stars
First, let me say that this soap blew all my expectations out of the water! I originally wanted to purchase it for baby diapers and wipes for stain removal/safe cleaning, but the little one had not yet come when I ordered this product.
My first trial after the "toxic residue of other products" removal pre-treatment that is recommended was on dog bedding. Not overly stinky bedding, but doggy-smelling just the same. I read other reviews where people commented on using less-than-the-reccommended amount, so I tried half a scoop. When I retrieved the clothing from the washer, I noticed something very strange. Nearly ALL the dog hair that had adhered to the bedding was stuck to the sides of the washer, in clumps. This has never happened to me before. It would also be irritating, BUT it actually made it really easy to remove the hair before the bedding went into the dryer. I had also experimented in the past with not using dryer sheets, but found myself pulling dog-hair covered bedding out of the dryer. So, you really don't have to use dryer sheets with this soap. I ended up with clean smelling, hair free bedding. What more could you ask for?
So, minus the 2 pre-treatment scoops the soap calls for, I think I can almost halfen the usage amount to make about 150 loads, which equals about 8 cents of soap per load. For clean smelling, soft clothes WITHOUT harsh chemicals or residues, this is GREAT! And who needs flowery-smelling clothing? Like the bag says, "If you want flowers, go pick some".
Customer Review: The best soap ever, but the new packaging not so much. Summary: 5 Stars
When my daughter decided while she was pregnant to "go native" and use only cloth diapers on her baby, we began researching for the best soap to wash them in. After many cloth diapering websites and reviews we decided on Charlie's. I ordered 3 for each of us (I watch the baby while she works) from Amazon, with wonderful service and shipping, as always. These first ones arrived in the original little cloth bag. We were impressed that a company was using a recyclable alternative to plastic.
The diapers we have are Lil Scoobs all in ones, made at home, found on E-bay and about 1/3 the price of brand names. We pre-washed them all and the Charlie's softened them up nicely. Since the baby, the Charlie's has done a wonderful job! We also use Kushie's liners, so poop clean up is super easy. We just throw away the liner (they are flushable, but we don't), rinse and put the diaper in a dry pail. We wash every other day, with just one little scoop of soap and the diapers come out so clean and fresh! No stains, odors or build-up. We really love it! We've also started washing our husbands work clothes in it and they are cleaner then ever.
The only downside is that Charlie's has replaced the cloth packaging with plastic. When my daughter received more Charlie's from her Amazon baby registry it arrived in a plastic jar. Reusable, but not recyclable in our area. A bit disappointing, but the soap itself is unchanged and the price is great, so we will continue to use and recommend it.
Customer Review: The only detergent I use Summary: 5 Stars
I also started using this detergent for baby clothes and cloth diaper but began using it for all my laundry because of skin sensitivities I have to the residues left by other detergents. Laundry smells great without fake cover up fragrances even when my son has accidents, clothes are wonderfully soft without fabric softeners, and it truly is residue free (I handled some laundry today washed in regular detergent and there was a noticeable film on my hands that left them dry and irritated). My mother also plans to switch to Charlie's Soap after seeing the results on my clothing, and we both plan to give the All Purpose Cleaner a trial run in an eco-friendly maid service we run.
I will say that for cloth diapers, I always add a few scoops of baking soda and usually use 2 scoops of Charlie's Soap for extra stain lifting and deodorizing as Charlie's Soap alone does not always completely clean heavily soiled laundry in my experience. I still need to strip my diapers once or twice a month in a prewash of hot water, baking soda, and vinegar to make sure they don't start getting that used diaper smell. I think I would have to do that no matter what soap I used, and I would need many more laundering supplements to achieve the results I get on cloth diapers using only 1-2 tablespoons of Charlie's Soap and baking soda. Since a 2 lb. box of baking soda is $1 at WalMart, it's still a great value and it feels good to know that I'm not using products that harm the earth.
Customer Review: Washes clothes clean, plus save me money on Oxi clean and clothes softner Summary: 5 Stars
I was tempted by so many good reviews about this product and bought a bag. So far, I am loving it! As one review says, it actually does what it claims. My clothes come out clean and smelling fresh. I have a whirlpool front loader that uses HE detergent. One tablespoon of this soap washes my clothes well without any residue. The extra bonus of this soap is that I stopped using Oxi Clean after I notice that without it my whites come out still white. I had an ultimate test last night when I had some serious blood stain on clothes and I again skipped Oxi Clean just to test this soap. To my delight, my clothes were completely cleaned. One note to this: I do use auto soak function on my washing machine all the time. Still I am amazed at the cleaning power of this soap because I have tried every brand name detergent over the years and I haven't had such good luck before. Another super nice feature of this soap is that I actually have softer clothes after drying my clothes in the dryer. I never liked the perfume used in clothes softner so I don't have a habit of using any. I was very surprised but happy to find that all my clothes now are softer when they come out of my dryer. Especially my jeans and kids' uniforms, which used to be more stiff, are obviously softer to the touch. My kids don't complain about their Dickies uniform pants being so stiff any more. Finally, I am just relieved to know that I am using an environmentally friendly detergent that washes really well.
Customer Review: I LOVE this FRAGRANCE FREE laundry detergent!!! Summary: 5 Stars
I have been using Charlie's Soap for over two years. I was looking for a Green laundry detergent that was fragrance free because my sister gets severe migraines from strong fragrances, so I wanted my clothing to be completely free of fragrance.
One tablespoon of this laundry detergent gets a large load my laundry beautifully clean. My laundry smells so fresh -- no fragrance to cover up odors because there are no odors left when I clean my laundry in Charlee's Soap.
I love how this laundry detergent works and that I can use it for my regular wash and also for my delicates. I use it for silk, cotton, polyester, and blends. It works great and leaves no residue.
I use Charlie's Soap along with 20 Mule Team Borax for my white laundry, and the combination works as good as if not better than when I use bleach. (By the way, you can safely use Charlee's Soap and bleach together on your white laundry items, if you wish).
Charlie's Soap is made by a family owned company. I like supporting that kind of company instead of the big-box stores.
I can't say enough good things about Charlie's Soap and the people who make it. Thanks!!!
P.S. I have noticed that there is a lot less lint on my dryer's lint filter since I started using Charlie's Soap. I think this laundry detergent is much more gentle on my laundry than other detergents that I have used.
