I have pretty severe allergies. Plus I am sensitive to medications. So I am always looking for different options. I have found that Clemastine (Tavist) is just as effective as Loratadine (Claratin) but with more drying power (ability to help with congestion). It seems to start working in as little as 20 min and lasts the whole 12 or so hours. I take 1/2 pill, and the pills are scored for easy snapping. Can't take Zyrtec AT ALL. It leaves me completely zonked- even at 1/3 normal dose.
Since just about everything has side effects for me, it is better that this is a 12 hour medication, instead of 24 hours like most other modern antihistamines. It gives me more control- for example, I can take it just at night and be off it during the day.
This generic Clemastine formulation seems to be just as effective as the Walgreen's "Walhist", but at a MUCH lower price. Just because it is a really old drug, and nobody carries it anymore, doesn't mean it isn't a good one. It just doesn't have any marketing behind it anymore.
I am very happy with this item.
