Have been using this product for a couple of days now and love it. In response to a review I saw that the soap bar slides around, that is not really true, while yes, it is smaller than the base of the shaving mug, the soap seats itself to the holder after the first use so it does not move around. Has a nice and almost unnoticeable smell, so that is good in that I have aftershave for smell. Works up an OK lather, not like what you would get out of a can, but still, when you're brushing it on with a brush, it is still good. I love using this method for shaving and had tried it before several years ago, but did not have a quality brush or stand for it, so I did not know that I was not doing it correctly. I like this soap and will probably be buying more of it and have definitely shifted to this style of shaving vs the can and will never go back. Now, I just wished I was skilled enough to use a straight razor, then the experience would be complete and matching that of my grandfather. Oh yes, I am now currently using a Tweezerman badger hair brush and a Merkur Model 180 razor, now I love to shave!Customer Review: Great shave at a great price!

This stuff works very well, I actually prefer it to some soaps that cost six times the price. Great volumes of slippery lather, and a nice subtle scent. I'm not ordinarily a fan of bay rum, as it's generally too strong and sickly sweet, but at this low concentration it's very nice and has really grown on me. The scent does not linger, so it won't interfere with your aftershave or cologne.
You can certainly use it right out of the simple package, although it may not be something you want to leave out on the counter. I pop the puck into an small, inexpensive bowl (from the local Chinese market!)and heat it in the microwave for about 15 seconds. It quickly melts into the form of the bowl, and cools right back down in a few minutes.

I'm on my 5th or 6th shave with a DE razor, and this soap type. I have used canned stuff my whole life until recently. I have a really nice badger hair brush, and this soap. I shave with the grain, then against/sideways on the grain for my 2nd pass. I can't bare to shave "UP". This soap is GREAT! I have nothing to compare it with, but, it really feels good and smells good too. I am using the bay rum, but, I bought some almond also, they both smell great. The smell lasts for a good bit, but, I've been using some shave balm afterward that overpowers it. I will never go back to canned shaving cream. Shaving is actually comfortable now. Next... straight razor...hmmm..Customer Review: Fantastic

I ordered this soap when I decided to start shaving with a straight razor. I haven't found someone to adequately sharpen the razor I bought, but I decided to give the shaving soap a try with my Fusion. WOW!
I have been using it for almost four weeks now, and what amazing results!
- I'm getting much closer, smoother shaves.
- No shaving bumps!
- Not a single nick!
- Smells wonderful, although the scent fades quickly.
- I am actually shaving faster now.
- After almost thirty shaves, the bar still looks new!
All in all, an incredible value, and I will definitely be sticking with this product.

Col. Conk Bay Rum shaving soap is my favorite because I like the aroma, and it gives a very easy lather, although you have to get a lot of soap in your brush when whipping it up. It fits any mug of 3 inches diameter, as this cake is 2 1/2 inches. It shaves cleaner than shaving cream, and doesn't clog your razor. Not only that, it rinses easily when you're done shaving, unlike another cake I tried which irritated my face for some reason.
I would also suggest pairing this product with Clubman Bay Rum lotion, which comes in 2 sizes, either 6 or 12 ounces. This would be the kind of thing your grandpa might have used.
