Customer Review: Do you want to go to prison? If not, stay away from Vega, because drinking Vega is like going to prison.

One poster said that Vega is like mud. I disagree. Vega is like sludge. It is overpriced, overhyped sludge. It tastes disgusting because there is no sugar in it. This probably wouldn't be a problem if there were no hemp (as in the material that is used to make potato sacks) protein in it. Moreover, if you have it with any type of milk it just tastes worse because it is thicker. To be able get by drinking Vega, you need to drink it with water.
If you read the Vega label and go to their website, they hype up their product by noting that Vega has MacaSure, ChlorEssence, probiotics, and other stuff. All of that means nothing because while you are drinking Vega, you'll feel like puking.
I would give Vega one extra star because it gives 100% of all nutrients and 26 grams of protein per serving, but to get that daily dose, you have to have two scoops of Vega daily, which means this Vega will only last you 15 days. For $55, that is an absolute rip-off. It also doesn't help that for two scoops, you are supposed to add 12-16 ounces of water. That is how much water you need for ONE scoop because with two scoops and that amount of water Vega definitely IS sludge.
For those looking for a vegan alternative, consider Nature's Way Alive shakes. I haven't tried them, but they've gotten better reviews, are much better priced, contain 100% of all nutrients (except phosphorous; and they have less protein), and they contain no animal or animal-derived products (told to me by a Nature's Way representative...who hopefully wasn't lying).
IN SUM: Vega is not worth the cost or the pain of consumption, and that pain is serious. With better options for better prices and hopefully better taste (you can't really get much worse than Vega), it's a no-brainer: Vega sucks.

I'm sure Vega is good for you. But it has to be the most awful tasting sludge I have ever tried. I'm vegetarian and I eat clean so I was looking for a non-chemical, clean supplement as part of my training program. I cant tell whats in it as the the labeling is really unclear. The nutritional values are clear but getting a list of actual ingredients is really unclear. I have made it with water, milk, added fruit, almond milk and rice milk and it really is difficult to swallow. It tastes bitter. I love green juices and have no problem with kale, or spinach in a smoothie but this stuff was just awful. I couldnt even tell that it was supposed to be chocolate flavour.
Mine has just gone in the trash.

I purchased this product after careful consideration. I was looking forward to a vegan meal replacement drink with great nutritional benefits. I like healthy things as a general rule and was confident this would be no exception. I forced myself to drink a big glass of the Vega Complete chocolate mixed with water. With each drink it became a test of the will. Finally I was reduced to breathing through my mouth to accomplish the task at hand. Afterwards I felt slightly nauseated for several hours. I shared it with a triathlete friend and he also found the taste to be repugnant.Customer Review: Nasty!

I got a sample pack at Whole Foods and mixed it up with water (milk wouldn't have taken away the taste of funk) and it was so icky that I tried adding Hershey's chocolate syrup out of desperation and that didn't even make a dent. If you've ever tried the vegetarian or vegan lifestyle then you know that every single one of the protein powders, bars, even normal foods tend to have a particular taste buried somewhere within the cover-up flavors. I've never put anything more repulsive in my mouth... ever.
No health benefits are worth trying to get that product in me- I'll just work a lot harder on eating a more balanced vegan diet and taking my supplements. I would love to find a vegan shake that is healthy and tasty though.. I'll keep looking because Vega sure isn't it.
