Customer Review: Groovy Little Machine

Serious respiratory issues, a houseful of pets [how dumb is that?]and Chicago winters finally drove me to a humidifier. Knowing the dangers of unclean machines, I had reservations about going this route.
Thanks to Amazon reviewers, the Crane won me over. Here's why:
1} Economy--NO FILTERS!! The machine is all you'll ever buy--unless you have hard water;
2} Convenience--Just set it and forget it! Fill it up, turn the dial for the desired vapor density and relax. The auto shut-off eliminates overheating worries;
3} Ease of cleaning--Simple daily rinse out, with a weekly soak of white vinegar and water;
4} Adjustable--The vapor density can be adjusted via the easy-to-use dial on the front of the machine. The nozzle on top moves 360 degrees, to direct the vapor wherever needed;
5} Design--Easy to fill. The lack of filters or masses of crannies for baceteria to hide. Tear drop with flat bottom makes the unit difficult to knock over or tip.
6} It's noiseless! So much so, that with the machine turned to minimum, I have to pass my hand over the opening to determine if its operatinal. The unit is located near my side of the bed, close to my head, and our sleep is undisturbed. We're sleeping better, actually.
7} Price--About right. The initial outlay may seem a little much, but considering the absence of filters {ongoing expense}, and all the other attributes, it is money well spent. Besides, who can put a price on cute?
8] The excellent demo cleaning video on theAmazon site, shows the cleaning process step-by-step. It sold me on the unit, when I saw how truly easy it is to clean.
Some reviewers experienced leaking of the unit and/or moisture issues in the area near the vapor stream. Our unit runs a minimum of 12 hours without issue. We are soooo impressed with this groovy orange retro-inspired machine, we bought a white one for my home office.
PS--Again, with the price. The white unit was out of stock, so I went to drugstore.com. Their price was $5 less plus free shipping on $25 for nw customers. Althouh, out of stock, customers can checkout as a backorder. Shock at the checkout! drugstore.com charges a $1.99 backorder fee! Free shipping disappeared because of the weight of the unit, althouh no reference to that little fact on the site. A lackluster telephone customer service person was the last straw. Amazon would never pull that kind of stuff! The white humdifier is back in stock at Amazon and on its way to me! Thanks, Amazon and all you lovely reviewers, for helping my health improve. Operating the Crane Drop Shape Ultrasonic Cool Mist Humidifier requires only a few easy steps. Simply remove the water tank from the unit, unscrew the tank cap, and fill the water tank under a water faucet. Securely replace the tank cap, making sure the rubber cap seal is in place, and place the water tank back onto the unit. Place the humidifier on an elevated surface and set it to a medium output setting for comfortable room humidification.
Important Tips
If you have a lot of minerals in your tap water, it is recommended to use distilled water, filtered water, or a Crane demineralization filter (HS-3161). Place humidifier on an elevated surface and not on carpet, towel, or sensitive wood furniture.
Cleaning and Storage
Frequently cleaning your humidifier is very important. Crane recommends emptying the water in the basin daily, making sure you pour away from the fan air-outlet. Disinfect the water basin and tank weekly by using a white vinegar and fresh water solution, let sit for 30 minutes, then rinse. For convenience, the Crane Descaler solution HS-1933 is also available. It is important to disinfect and dry completely before storage.
