Customer Review: Wish I had better tap water

I got this because I knew in advance that my tap water was 'hard'. In the drop humidifier instructions (which you don't read until you have purchased the thing) it says - note: It is recommended you used filtered or distilled water. The reason is because the minerals in tap water will cause some white dust to come from the machine. And I guess over time it will cause the unit to not work properly. Anyway I got this thing and they don't list here that it should be replaced after 30-40 refills - and you refill every day. That means the life of the filter is around a month. Just consider this expense if you have hard water like almost everyone does.
The filter itself is around 3x5 inches. It fits in there just fine. You have to soak it for 30 minutes before you put it in the machine.

After a few days of using the Crane Drop-shape humidifier, I discovered that it was coating everything in my room with white dust. You can either get this filter or use distilled water to prevent the white dust, but I thought I would try the filter out first since it seemed to be more convenient. I noticed absolutely no difference when using the filter. I followed the directions and pre-soaked the filter but it just doesn't work. I guess I'm going to have to resort to distilled water...Customer Review: Doesn't work

I got this because my crane humidifier was coating everything in my apartment and practically destroying my electronics (DVD/Bluray optics, cameras) with white dust from the hard water. I just don't have easy access to distilled water so I bought these filters. They did not cut down the dust significantly, so I stopped using the crane humidifiers altogether.Customer Review: Mineral Cartridge

This thing totally didn't work for me. I still got white dust deposits when using it. I also have a AOS 7135 and it has a cartridge. When I use it I don't have the same problem from the same water so my only conclusion is that this one doesn't work.
