Customer Review: Used to be the best. Now, I won't touch them.
Summary: 1 Stars

Dentek silk floss picks used to be the best. They were fantastic - easy to glide between the teeth, didn't catch, and didn't shred.

Then, sometime in the last year or so, they changed them.

1. They changed the body of the pick. In order to save money by using less plastic, they made the picks more slender. Unfortunately, this not only made them weaker, but it also made them a lot more difficult to grip while using them.

2. They added a fluoride coating to the floss. This is a real problem. Studies in recent years show that fluoride, contrary to older dogma, actually harms teeth. No matter which side of the science you believe, with the original design, you were safe, because the picks were neutral. Well, not anymore. Now that they've added the fluoride coating, you have to pick a side (no pun intended). My feeling is that if I wanted fluoride, I'd buy a fluoridated toothpaste. I don't want chemicals in my picks!

And that's aside from the fact that these picks are made in China, which has a particularly poor record of late in regards to heavy metal and chemical contamination of the products they make. When this was just a floss pick, you might take that chance. But by deliberately adding a chemical coating, to my mind, that makes it far more likely that there might be some sort of contamination present. Especially, since we're not just talking about a toy, but something that is deliberately put into the mouth.

Of course, if you asked Dentek about this, they'll say that they work very closely with their manufacturer in China, and are certain there are no issues. But by the same token, if you had asked any of the other myriad companies with major contamination problems prior to the issues becoming known, they would have said the very same thing.

If Dentek goes back to making these the way they did a year ago, I'll buy them again. Until then, I'll have to find an alternative made by someone else.

Customer Review: won't buy these again

there are better choices. The plastic "handle" is hard to hold. The floss is too thick and not well attached so after the first tooth it's limp and useless.
