Customer Reviews of Diva Cup Model 1 Pre-ChildbirthCustomer Review: Can't imagine my period without it now! Summary: 5 Stars
I purchased the diva cup for two main reasons: I was tired of the cost of tampons/pads, and I was upset with the amount of waste I created with each passing period (plastic applicators, wrappers, etc.).
It took a little getting used to, but once I had the technique down, I really liked it. I only had to change it every twelve hours (9 or 10 hours when the flow is heavy) so I would completely forget that I was on my period, and there was no more ruining my underwear.
During the beginning of my last period, I couldn't find my cup, so I used tampons. I must say, without that experience of going BACK to tampons, I don't think I could appreciate the diva cup the way I do now! I was in a sports stadium; leaving my seat to go to the bathroom every four hours because I bled through my tampon was beyond annoying. My underwear was ruined by the end of the day. I had forgotten what a hassle tampons and pads had been. Thank goodness I found my cup the next day!!!
Normally I don't write reviews, but I just adore this product so much more now; hopefully I can convince those who are on the fence about buying the diva cup that it is one hundred percent worth it. I do not regret this purchase ONE BIT. Get the technique down (there are plenty of video tutorials on folding styles and such in case you need help) and you are set!
Customer Review: It's awkward to write, but here is the answers to your questions. Summary: 5 Stars
I have always been a heavy bleeder. As a heavy bleeder you have to consider your options carefully...
Pad --> Yeah right, a change every hour at least.
Tampon --> Changing every two hours or so and with old pipes I cannot flush the things without clogging the drains. If you need tampons let me know... I have hundreds that I will never use.
Instead --> Yes, that is what they are called, go ahead and look them up. They are a throw away version of a cup. I can even get up to 6 hours with these things. When you go to remove them they splatter *cough* blood all over your hands AND the firm plastic rim presses against your colon so it can get uncomfortable at times, but it is what I have been using for the last year.
The diva cup --> The price is what kept me from trying it the most. After considering how much the other "supplies" cost over an extended period of time I thought it would be worth a go. Once you get the insertion procedure figured out you can forget that you're on your period... forget it... don't worry whether or not you are carrying what you need in your purse, how you'll dispose of it if you're at someone's house, or having to ask someone if you realize you've forgotten to bring what you need. It can be wiped out and reinserted. Forget eco-friendly... go purse-less and relax.
Customer Review: Wonderful alternative to pads/tampons Summary: 5 Stars
This is a great product and far more comfortable than pads or tampons. If you are going to use a menstrual cup definitely use the diva cup because it is made out of medical grade silicone instead of latex like other menstrual cups. This means that it isn't biodegradeable but at least you run a much lower risk of having some kind of allergic reaction. The only draw back is the learning curve. When I first used this I almost gave up because inserting it was very painful. The truth was that I wasn't inserting it correctly. It's best to insert while sitting on the edge of the toilet and do your best to relax your body as much as possible. Then you will have to adjust it slightly once it's in. The tail is somewhat bothersome. If you want you can trim it a bit but not completely unless you are very comfortable removing it. Never take it out by simply pulling on the tail. This is very painful and dangerous because of the suction. The tail is just a way to locate it. I know this actually makes it seem not worth it but you can leave it in your body for a full 24 hours without any problems . Absolutely no leaking once you have it in properly and you can't even feel it. You may even forget you're wearing it. The price is also completely worth it. You can use this product for years.
Customer Review: I wish I discovered this sooner! Summary: 5 Stars
I wish I bought this sooner after someone told me about this. Actually I am amazed that this is not sold in drug stores, because it is so much more comfortable and less wasteful than tampons/pads. But then I guess they can't lure you in with those weekly coupons because once you buy this one, you're set....until you have a child, I guess.
But back to diva cup: first it's not hard to use, the instructions are pretty helpful. I suggest practicing once first when you get it so there's no messy tweedling when the period come. It only took me 2-3 times to get the hang of it. Getting out is harder than putting in, so definitely sit down for that.
It is not as awkward or as dirty as people put out to be. Actually tampons and pads are more unsanitary, since they create a moist environment for bacteria to grow. Plus they're itchy and irrtating. This is much easier. And no, it is not disgusting at all. It can be messy when you're changing in public bathroom, and that's I think the big drawback to this.
The cup also is tilted during non-standing positions, so I still need to change it twice a day during heavy days, but it's still a vast improvement over other options.
Anyways, stop reading and buy it. It really makes life and traveling much easier.
Customer Review: Was expecting it to be a lot harder to learn to use... Summary: 5 Stars
After reading the reviews on here, I was expecting it to take a while to learn how to properly insert this and how to remove it easily, but I inserted it easily on the first try. I put a tiny bit of water-based lube (even though it says not to) on the outside, fold it into the U-shape, pinch it tightly about a centimeter from the top, then stuff it up there. Once it's inserted, I can't feel it and I forget it's there.
To remove it, I slide my finger up along it and pinch it near the top to break the seal, then grab the base of it and pull it out. I don't use the stem at all, but I haven't trimmed it because it doesn't bother me.
The worst thing about the diva cup is emptying it. I dread that part. I know it says not to leave it in more than 12 hours, but I leave it in for 24, so I change it once a day. I usually turn on the sink, keep my eyes closed while taking it out, then carefully throw it in the sink and and hope that I miss seeing what's inside.
I love it because:
-It can be left in for a long time; no more carrying tampons everywhere.
-Stays in better than tampons. For me, tampons start to slip down after a few hours.
-No string that gets in the way when you pee.
