I have been using fans for years to make "white noise" for my children while they slept. Our house is not very big and sound travels. The fans were good for the noise, but it seemed my baby kept waking up with a stuffy/runny nose. This product was a bit pricy, but I'm glad I bought it. We've had it for about a week and it is working wonderfully. I needed the sound to be pretty loud and it is. If you have a baby and are looking for a white noise effect to help them sleep-go ahead a get this-you'll be glad you did.Customer Review: Best White Noise Machine

This white noise machine is superior to any of the electronic models. It masks noise much better and there is no annoying repeating pattern. I am purchasing a second one for when we travel and have the kids in another room.
Even though there is only one speed setting, you can adjust the sound pitch and volume to some extent by adjusting the air vents. In my opinion, there is really not much reason for having the second speed since you can also just put it further away to reduce the noise level.

I have used a sleep mate for about 9 years. Before that I used a small fan that I turned away from myself in colder weather. I love this product so much and then my son used it for a week. He said that he couldn't sleep without it so I bought another one. They are small and easy to take with you wherever you go. It has a nice fan-like noise that you can make louder or softer by moving the cover. This is just what is needed to block out sounds that disrupt sleep for those who are light sleepers or have tinitis.Customer Review: very good buy

i have slept with a fan running all my life.so when i seen this i had to have it .i am so glad i bought this sleepmate.i sleep like a baby now.i am a very light sleeper and any noise and im up.this cancels out any noise so i dont get desturded anymore.its not that loud but it doesnt need to be for it to work.i mean i have had a fan on high running every nite for 35 years and this thingy worked for me.and my electric bill went down about 20 dollars.you need one of these if you have to sleep with noise.Customer Review: Fully adjustable, organic noise!

I love this noise machine. When compared to speaker-based models, the noise is much more soothing. For me it is plenty loud, and there are adjustments on the top and sides for volume and pitch, depending on your preferences. I like it loud and low! It's very easy to turn on with just the flip of a switch. It's not quite as portable as some smaller devices, but it's better than lugging around a full-size fan! We take them everywhere we go, especially for the kids. I highly recommend it.
