Customer Reviews of Dr. Scholl's Odor Destroyers Shoe Shot Deodorant Powder , 8 oz (227 g)Customer Review: (4/5) Odor Preventer Instead Summary: 4 Stars
So after searching on Amazon for a shoe odor killer, I came across this product and gave it a few tries.
First off, I have a pair of nasty shoes that I wear occasionally when I don't feel like dressing up. Also keep in mind that these nasty shoes are also used for all activities since I don't have to care for them. Anyhow, these nasty shoes (Nike Air Forces) have begun to smell after a about a year; I used this "Dr. Scholl's Odor Destroyers" and I noticed a pretty good difference. My feet used to be very sweaty and I could smell a hint of funk when I crossed my legs (where my foot rests on my knee, the mens way), but after using this product, I don't notice the slight smell anymore and also I'd like to add that my feet's humidity level dropped.
So how effective was this powder? Well I gave it a 4/5 because, it did attack the issue, but it certainly didn't eliminate the problem. Now I wasn't expecting the powder to magically make my shoes smell and feel brand new, but the fact that the powder must be reapplied for every use with the small quantity given (8oz) doesn't really make it the best bang for my buck. With that, I would like to label this product as an odor preventer since I find that this product's role prevents potential feet/shoes from turning sour instead of actually treating a bad case of smelly feet/shoes for a good amount of time.
Pros and Cons:
Pro(s):
- Good for containing light to medium odors (it does make your feel smell like a hospital, but would you prefer having smelly feet?)
- Keeps feet feeling nice and dry
- Bottle angled and designed nicely to shoot a puff of powder
Con(s):
- One small squeeze actually shoots a lot of powder (so you might run of of this fast), but this could be my issue alone since I do have big hands
- Only 8oz
- Another reviewer said that the powder can follow you when you take off your shoes (I confirm that this is a fact, especially if you wear black socks)
Recommendation(s)/Suggestion(s):
- This product is handy; however, I suggest buying a second pair of shoes (preferably ones that can let your feet breathe) so you can switch your footwear half way through the day. This will give more time for your alternating ashoes to breathe and dry out (a very necessary step in order to let the moisture out so that bacteria can't thrive)
- Wear fresh pairs of socks frequently and if you can, take off your shoes to air out your own feet when time permits!
- When you pump a shot of powder into your shoes, make sure you shake your shoe up a bit to distribute the powder better (also gently squeeze the bottle, otherwise you might over shot the shoe making it smell like a hospital)
- To prevent yourself from making a trail of powder, simply dust/pat your socks (if you still have a lot of powder, it just means you put too much powder inside your shoe to begin with)
Thanks for reading this review. Cheers!
Customer Review: Works to do what it says Summary: 4 Stars
It works. Spray some of this in some smelly sneakers or boots or whatever and the odor will be gone. My only gripe is that the powder also sticks to your socks and if you have carpet in your home or wherever, it might look like you were hosting a party with Scarface due to all the powder marks left by your steps. That being said, I would still recommend this product to anyone who has an issue with odor in their shoes.
Customer Review: Terrible smell Summary: 1 Stars
This product smells AWFUL - much worse than Gold Bond or other foot powders. I don't know how well it works, because I ended up throwing it out after smelling it.
