I just want to say that I live in a household with sick people. My mother-in-law is starting to show a lot of the muscle symptoms for Huntington's disease, so I looked around for things that would make her life easier. Let me say that this chair is really sturdy if left on the first 2 - 3 height settings. Like others said, it feels a little shaky, it felt shaky usually going higher up on the chair. I myself am 6'2" and 225 pounds, the thing doesn't sink in, and it feels really strong. As for it rusting, I can't rate it based on what the water can do to the chair since the water here in Tucson seems to destroy a lot of things, however, my parents have one back in NY and theirs have been standing for close to 2 years. Instructions say to wipe it, I would definitely follow that if you're in an area with some really bad cases of hard water.
