Also known as a "companion chair", this lightweight rolling chair is especially invaluable for a caregiver who takes a family member to medical-related appointments. It isn't meant for everyday use around the house, or for day-long sitting, but rather for limited transport from a vehicle to a medical appointment, PT, or the hairdresser/barber shop, etc.
The comfort level is reasonable and the convenience level is unmatched. (A gel seat cushion might help, and can be purchased separately.) No transport chair will substitute for a wheelchair; someone else needs to push this chair.
IMPORTANT:
1. The weight limit for this item is 300 lbs. Don't order it unless you have verified that the person for whom it is intended weighs in at no more than that.
2. Even a person weighing 200 pounds will be tricky to transport, if you must go up ramps, so give some thought to your own physical limits. If you are up in years or have heart problems or a chronic condition yourself, you may need additional help.
3. You need to be able to fold and lift twenty awkward pounds in and out of a vehicle.
4. The back handles do fold, but that maneuver can be tricky. Unless you are mechanically inclined, ask someone for help in the minimal assembly, and then practice folding it until it feels easy to do!
5. Make sure your vehicle has adequate room in the trunk to transport this.
6. If not, or unless you have a station wagon or SUV, you may need to place this (folded) upright in the back seat foot area, right behind the front seatbacks. That means you may have little or no room for additional passengers.

The Designer Fly-Weight Transport Chair is from Drive Medical, one of the country's fastest growing manufactures of Durable Medical Equipment. The all aluminum frame chair weighs only 19 lbs., which is 30% less than a traditional transport chair, while maintaining a weight capacity of 300 lbs. The seat width is 19". The deluxe back release allows the back to fold down for easy storage and transport. The footrests swing away and are easily removed. The chair comes with a seat belt for added safety. Maintenance free composite 8" wheels are on the front and rear making it easy to maneuver the chair. There is a convenient carry pocket in the back for storage of personal items.
