Customer Reviews of Duro-Med Universal Cane Holder (Pack of 3)

Customer Review: What a great idea!
Summary: 4 Stars

I bought this product for a friend who uses a cane. Before, when ever she would prop the cane up against a table it would continually slip and fall to the floor. I saw this cane holder quite by accident and thought it would help.

Now she can set the cane on the edge of the table and it stays put. She is very happy that she no longer needs to scramble around trying to pick her cane up off the floor! What a great idea!

Customer Review: Great cane holder
Summary: 4 Stars

This cane holder works well. My mother-in-law's cane was always falling from where she put it. With this holder, it will stay in place at the table or at a store check-out counter. It is only made to fit canes with a diameter of one inch or smaller, so measure before you order. It takes someone with hand strength to pull open the holder to put on the cane initially, but once on, it stays in place.

Customer Review: Not as effective as I'd hoped
Summary: 3 Stars

This device does help somewhat in propping a cane on a table depending on the table's edge. My kitchen table has a rounded edge and the holder doesn't work at all on it, but it does work reasonably well on a simple square edge. The device is a bit difficult to install onto the cane as you have to manually pull the edges apart (unless I missed some key button or opening mechanism) and the spring is very tight so it will not slip once installed. It only extends away from the cane a short distance, about 1.5", which is good in that it doesn't get in the way, but not as good for giving much gripping ability and the little foam pad isn't much help.

I use a flip-seat `cane', which has got a different balance than a regular cane because the seat part makes the top a bit heavier, plus my walking stick/flip-seat cane doesn't have a 'crook' as a regular cane does so I have a harder time propping it against something. I can't hang it over the back of a chair for example. I'd really hoped this gadget would help me out. It does help somewhat by allowing me to prop the cane on some surfaces so it's not a total bust, but doesn't completely solve my problem. Also the directions indicate I could prop the cane against a table by setting the gadget so it pressed up against the under side of the table, but I found it very difficult to move once on the cane shaft so wasn't able to adjust its height to a slightly higher or lower table top.

Bottom line, it helps in some situations, but not all.

Customer Review: It Works. Mostly.

I just injured myself so I'm new to crutches, canes, etc. There are no instructions for how to use this product, so it's possible I'm using it wrong, but the thing seems simple enough. It can be difficult to get the thing open and then attached to your crutch/cane. Good thing you only have to do it once (generally) - you can slide the thing up and down and the only reason I see you might remove it is to improve the appearance of your cane/crutch. As if that matters.

Anyhoo - the Cane Holder works as advertised - it *does* allow you to lean your crutch/cane against a table or shelf and it will remain upright. There is a little circular piece of foam on each side of the Holder that is supposed to keep the crutch/cane from sliding and falling over. I think this foam piece *does* help, but I'm disappointed that it doesn't help more. I've found that my crutch/cane will still slide and fall over eventually if the table or shelf it's leaning on is not perfectly stable. Perhaps rubber would have worked better? Additionally, the Holder easily slides up and down on my both my crutch and my cane. Thus it's not impossible to have the holder fit tightly on the table. Usually it's just the weight of the crutch/cane (less the amount the Holder slides up and down) that keeps the crutch/cane on the table.

I'd look to see if there isn't a better product out there if I were I were buying. But this is better than nothing.
