My husband had extremely waxy ears. He'd wash his ears in the shower each morning, but have soft, waxy build-up by the end of the day.
He went to the doctor's office when it got really bad, but the results were hit or miss. Sometimes he'd get a fantastic nurse who would take the time and effort to rinse them until the "stuff" came out, and sometimes he'd just get waterlogged ears and have to pay a co-pay for it.
We tried the usual at-home solutions, various drops and the blue rubber bulb, but they didn't do much for him.
I went looking for something that could bring him relief, and eyed this tool skeptically. Despite the positive reviews, I think it just seemed too good to be true. When it got to the point where his hearing had significantly degraded and it was either settle for one of the old options or try this, we finally ordered it.
This tool just WORKS. It's so simple and inexpensive, but it really is effective.
I think it's an awkward angle for one person to do alone (not impossible, just harder), so he sat in the bathroom and held a bowl under his ear while I pushed the water in. A tip: when you first try this, gently squirt some water in from a couple different angles. I was careful and thought I was in the right position, but about halfway through I unintentionally shifted and he could immediately tell the difference. He felt like the water was hitting the right spot then, so try to find the best position for you before you really get going.
(Warning: a bit gross) At first, little things came out, which was encouraging but the problem wasn't solved. I kept going, using strong "blasts" of pressure, and after a few minutes a big ball suddenly flushed out. He said his hearing felt like it went from 50% to 90% instantly.
I think for people who's ears suffer from actual obstructions, the drops and rubber bulb may trap more moisture inside the ear, exacerbating the problem and feeling uncomfortable. This syringe uses sufficient force to get the blockage OUT, but it's safe because of holes that push overflow water backwards so the pressure isn't too great.
The drops and bulbs are effective for many people, but if they're not enough for you, this tool may finally solve your problem like it did ours. Ear wax may seem like a comparatively small or even embarrassing issue, but my husband was so much happier when he could finally hear clearly again (and have the tool to keep it that way).
My only regret about this product is we didn't buy it much sooner!
