I have been on a mission to find eco-friendly products for my home. For this review, I was interested in finding a dishwashing detergent that did not blast chlorine steam into my kitchen during the dry cycle. I researched the reviews here on Amazon and chose Ecover dishwasher tablets. I am truly amazed that my dishes are cleaner than ever, and actually shine - it also seems to have cleaned my dishwasher, because it no longer has the dark scum that I have to wipe out of the soap dispenser and around the edges of the dishwasher. Since my dishes and my dishwasher are so clean, my assumption is that Ecover does not leave any nasty chemical residues behind. For those of you who would like to know, I have well water (pH corrected). I am NOT going back to my other brands.
Update: Ecover tabs do not seem to get black tea stains out of my cups. It is a minor irritation for me (being green is more important), but worth noting in the event that this is important to some people. I now drink green tea, so this is not even an issue for me anymore, since green tea doesn't stain.

I was verry impressed with the ecover brand. I was verry hesitant to switch ans I HATE washing dishes and do not like to prep them for the dishwasher beyond scraping off chunks. i have been using the Cascade tabs which work great and was leary of finding a natural product that could compete.
We are a family of 5 and I can gurantee you these rival Cascade and do not fill your kitchen with stinky steam during the drying process. i will not go back!
i did contact the company about the fact that each tab is packed in it's own plastic bag. They responded verry quickly and with a gunuine answer. They are packaged that way because in shipping they would deterioate if they constantly rub and bump each other in the box. And the plastic bags are the best eco anser they have right now. The bags are recyclable (if your recycling program takes them) And the Box they come in is just big enough for the product, no empty spaces and wasted packaging.
I reccomend these to anyone that I can.

I am trying to use eco friendly products. But they have to work just as well as normal products.
I first tried the Seventh Generation liquid gel detergent. That was unacceptable (left white film, didn't clean).
So I was surprised that this worked well. The only warning is that I think it tends to affect aluminum things (makes them darker). It disclaims this on the packaging. Otherwise it's perfect.
I used to use Electrasol tablets so these tablets are about the same size and perform similarly.

I reviewed this years ago before the appalling price hike. I still use this but I buy it locally until Amazon sells it directly (eligible for free shipping) for the old price.

I spent months looking for an ecologically friendly citrus-free detergent because I thought I wasn't supposed to use any citrus products on my silverware. Then I talked to the silverware company and learned that it was only lemon I was supposed to avoid. After checking the Ecover tablets box in our local store, I couldn't find any indication that there was lemon present, so I went for it despite the citrus.
I LOVE these things! I've never used dishwasher tabs before, and it's so easy to put them neatly into the dispenser! The individual packets the tabs come in are made of recyclable plastic.
And what's really great: our old detergent was leaving powder all over everything, especially our glasses. These tablets don't leave powder--and, even better, they get things really gloriously clean! I don't think my silverware has been so shiny and gorgeous since just after we got it! Needless to say, I am impressed.

I bought a box of these at a local store to see if I would like them before having to buy 5 boxes from Amazon. We have really hard water and the only dishwasher soap that I found that worked, cleaned the dishes, and didn't leave a film was the Electrasol tablet. Then I tried the Ecover tablets and they work great. I scrape off big pieces of extra food but don't pre-rinse and they still work great. I don't usually run the dishwasher everyday (we're a family of 3 so don't often make a full load every day) and they still work great on dishes that have been sitting. I have a basic, no-frills Kenmore dishwasher that is about 5-6 years old. I turn it off after the last rinse and prop the door open to let the dishes dry. They come out beautifully. I need to say, though, that I hardly use any plastic (and try to hand wash it instead of putting it in the dishwasher) so I can't say how it would work on loads of plastic.
