This is the first epilator i've ever owned, having shaved all my life, it being the easiest and least painful option for hair removal. i did a lot of research online before deciding on an epilator, and even more before deciding to try this one. i have a very low pain tolerance, so i was quite sceptical, but willing to give it a go given that i'd read in a number of places that epilators are now nowhere near as painful as they used to be, and i had read many reviews stating that this one was around the least painful there was.
i have just received my new epilator and used it for the first time, and i can definitely say that it is really not that bad at all. Yes, there is a very mild pinching sensation as each hair is removed, but its definitely well within my ability to tolerate it, and even do an entire leg at a time. It is far easier to see whether the you've been successful with removing the hair with an epilator, and with this one, you do need to go over the same spot a few times sometimes, but mostly, it does a great job first time round. i doubt there's a hair removal technique yet invented that really never needs to go over the same area twice.
Like with all hair removal, you will need to do it regularly at least to start, because your hair grows in cycles, and when you do it today, you're not catching the hairs that are still growing in the pores and haven't peeped out as yet.
One cannot complain about fast regrowth or ingrowns in relation to epilators, because that's really individual to each person's body, so the factors i believe are important are:
* Is it painful? - Not enough to worry about. Also, i could actually feel a sharp, pricking sensation in a number of the pores for a while afterwards, but nothing disturbing.
* How fast can you get it done? - For me, this epilator was perhaps a couple of minutes faster than shaving, but nothing to write home about.
* How smooth are you afterwards? - Very smooth, very smooth.
* Is it easy? - As easy as shaving with this one.
* Can i attack multiple parts of my body with the same tool? - Yes - the same head can do the upper lip, underarms, legs and bikini area. However, the instructions say that when using on the upper lip, one should only target individual hairs at a time, and use only one of the heads.
* Can i use it wet and dry? This one is dry only, but i don't see that as a problem.
* Is it easy to use? - Very. It sits easily in your hand, and while the instructions state which way round you're supposed to hold it, the shape of the body makes you want to hold it that way anyway. The on/off/ slider is easy to intuit, and really, its much like shaving from there, except that you're supposed to pull your skin taut as you go. Easy peasy.
* Is it easy to clean? - Yes. It comes with a little brush that is easy to hold and easy to use on the epilator head. The head is detachable for easier cleaning if you wish, and comes off as a completely separate unit, with no internal working exposed on either the body or the head when it is removed. All you need to do is brush off the hairs and you're done.
* How noisy is it? - Moderately, but quieter than many electric razors. Its not quiet, per se, but it didn't scare my cats when i turned it on next to them.
* Can i go out looking fab straight away? - i would say no. This is a small drawback i guess, to epilators in general, not just this one. i have quite white skin, and it was decidedly marked with little red dots for a while afterwards.
* Is it worth the money? - Admittedly i should probably answer this question after at least a couple of months usage, but so far, i'd say yes, and based on the majority of the reviews i've read (many of which are after a significant period of use), i would say yes.
