This is only the second epi hair remover I've owned, so I can only compare this one to my old epilady that I used 10+ years ago. The difference is substantial though. Does it hurt? Of course. But it's much faster and works better than the previous one, so it's over much more quickly. You will become less sensitive to the pain over time, but it never goes away completely. I recommend it over tweezing and waxing because it's less costly than waxing and more efficient than either. I only use this on my face, so I don't know how well it works for legs and bikini areas. But for legs, it might be too small. Also, I would not recommend this for use below the brow line because the surface is not flat or smooth enough and the potential for accidentally pulling too many brow hairs out is too great to be worth the risk. Another note: I've used mine weekly for the past nine months and it still works like new and I've only gone through two sets of batteries.Customer Review: I love this thing!

I have used the Emjoi for two months before posting a review because I had my doubts that such a modestly-priced epilator would live up to its purpose. But, I'm happy to report: It works! At first, I suspected that the rotating heads were just breaking the hair at the surface, but when I cleaned it, I could see the hair roots. Further proof of its tweezing function is that there is no stubble, just smooth skin, even days later. If you are used to tweezing, the Emjoi is virtually painless, although the first time can be a bit uncomfortable. I have not experienced any skin irritation. The Emjoi is definitely designed for small delicate areas and I use it only on my neck and face. And, as with all epilators, the longer you use it, the thinner the hair growth. Cleaning the heads is quick and simple, just use the provided brush to dust the hair away.Customer Review: A great product!

I am African-American and I have very coarse hairs. I literally will grow a beard and mustache if I do not remove the hair. I have tried shaving but I get ingrown hairs that lead to hair bumps that lead to dark spots on my skin. Waxing hurts and is difficult to do properly because the hairs are so coarse. Tweezers take forever. I was getting electrolysis but the treatments are expensive and it was going to take like 8 at $150 a pop to get everything. I happened to be in Target one day and saw the Emjoi EpiSlim. That was years ago. I still have the same one. It still works great. The batteries last about a month. It does hurt but you get used to it after a while. I use it daily and it takes about five minutes. I only use it for my face. Great product!Customer Review: Really works!

I've been thinking about trying an epilator for a while, but didn't want to invest a hundred bucks on something potential painful. I'm a real wimp about pain. But I'm really tired of fighting with unwanted hair. Not to be too graphic, but I just can't seem to get a smooth shave in my armpits. And since I live in the tropics, I wear a lot of sleeveless tops.
Does it hurt? Yes, but I find this little device less painful than waxing, probably because it doesn't pull out an area 4" square at one time. I've had very poor luck waxing my underams, anyway. It just yanks the hairs out so fast that you feel a sting. Actually, I'm so impressed that I'm thinking about investing in one of the full size epilators and doing my legs, too.

Exactly as advertised. Thank you! Small enough to take in my makeup bag. Not for use on large areas like legs (would take too long) but perfect for bikini line, tummy, toes, and underarms. Has been safe for me to use in sensitive areas, something I was concerned about. One thing to note- there is no place for the hair to go once its been removed, so I found it much cleaner to do in an area that could easily be cleaned up, like the bathroom. Also, I found that the hair lifted easier right after a shower, maybe b/c pores were opened. Lastly, I sprayed the 'blade' area with rubbing alcohol (just the tips of the 'blade', i don't mean soak the whole thing). I found that this killed bacteria that would make my skin sting after a use.
