Much like another reviewer, I'm new to DE shaving and using a brush to apply cream/soap. Even after I made the DE switch, I stood by, and do so at least twice/week, my Barbasol (yellow) canned cream. I love that stuff, but I've found that applying soap/cream with a brush makes a world of difference. I have nothing to compare this brush to, but it works exactly as advertised. Upon first use, I dipped a dampened brush into my Soap (excess water shaken from it, of course), swirled it around a few times and commenced lathering up my face. Within seconds, a nice foamy lather ensued and I was able to shave more comfortably, and closely than I have ever shaved... and there was still enough lather/foam on the brush to shave 2 more passes. It creates a full lather and sheds minimally (I think I've only seen 3 bristles fall off so far). The handle has a decent heft to it and holds nicely in my hand, but again, I have nothing to compare it to. I'm sure there are other brushes on the market with better handling, better bristles, better lathering, etc, but for $14, I'm not sure you can find such a quality, real-hair, wood-handle brush to break in to DE shaving. Of course, very fast shipping as fulfillment is by Amazon.
If you're looking for an inexpensive, good quality badger-hair brush, this is an excellent pick, especially if this is your first trek into brush application.
