I bought this because my office chair was hard and mean and my patootie hurt after only an hour. This was the only one large enough to fit my 18x18 chair. (I figured 1 inch less wouldn't hurt and I was right) I was skeptical of the cut-away back. I thought it would be uncomfortable to have part of my body "floating" as it were. But the minute I sat down I found relief. My sore tailbone eased and I knew I had made the right choice.
Though warned, it seemed harder than I was expecting when I first sat on it. But then I slowly sank a little and felt both supported and cushioned. I think anything softer wouldn't provide the support I need. It's like picking a right bed for a wonky back. You need one soft enough to sooth sore muscles but firm enough to keep them from getting bent out of shape.
I've been sitting on it less than ten minutes and already my back feels better.
