Customer Review: Very Helpful & Convenient
Summary: 4 Stars

We have 1 of these in each of the major room-areas (kitchen/dining, greatroom/hallway & master suite)and find they mostly keep indoor humidity to 35% or less (to prevent mold allergenics) when outdoor humidity is that much or higher, judging by separate humidity gauges we have indoors and outdoors. The drawer-type clear-front covered tank is a tad stubborn to slide out and seems to require one hand steadying the machine and the other hand pulling the drawer (with thumb of the pull-hand pressing against the front of the machine just above the drawer) which takes a little practice but seems some protection against the tank coming out too easily that could spill or fly loose and break when water-weight makes it heavy. We find it easiest to use at countertop/tabletop height and it fits ok with a footprint of about 12"x9" including allowing the side vents to fan air out and back electric plug to protude. We keep the powersupply of the cords elevated on little mesh boxes from the local dollar-store --separate footprint about 6"x5"-- for air circulation to minimize overheat other reviewers have mentioned, and we unplug the cord from the wall as well as turn the machine off during non-use in low-humidity seasons. The grab/handle-space in the top back of the appliance is not a secure grip but the machine is lightweight enough that this is no real problem tho' we hope it will be improved in future models. The EvaDry website isn't highly informative and showed no email for questions when we wanted additional info before our first purchase at Amazon, but the phone staff were helpful, gave an eedress for our questions, and emailed answers very promptly. The one time we needed to use the warranty service, the phone-staff supplied how-to and turn-around time was about 3 weeks between the day we parcel-posted the problem machine out to when we received the replacement, and a tracking# was given when we emailed to ask for it. Overall, in 14 months of usage of these machines, they're convenient, low-maintenance, effective for the price and situation, and seem to add only minimally to the electricity bill.

Customer Review: Deconstructed
Summary: 4 Stars

This is a pretty good unit, but I got curious as to what we're paying $80 for. See the product images for the internals and thermal analysis.
The basics of the unit are: 2 front heatsinks that are attached to a large internal heatsink via powered thermal pads. A fan at the back draws air in through the front, over the front heatsinks (where moisture condenses), over the rear heatsink (which seems to heat the air) and out of the sides. A very simple design, actually, so I bet the bulk of the price is paid for those magic thermal heatpads.

The unit is not very large but it does work. In 24 hours of operation it removes a third of a container worth of water (don't know how much that is). However, it didn't seem to have any effect on the digital hygrometer that I have - although at 60%-70% relative humidity anything helps.

It is probably possibly to mod the unit with larger frontal heatsinks for faster condensation (due to larger surface area), but that might raise the temperature of the heatsinks and therefore the rate at which moisture condenses.

The fan in the back is a regular 90mm computer fan and could be replaced by a quieter model (although it will need to be spliced into the power). It is not whisper-quiet but I have absolutely no trouble sleeping with this in the same room. Perhaps fitting a larger but quieter 120mm fan would keep the unit performing as well but make it quieter.

As some reviewers have mentioned, it would be nice if this unit contained air filters and it's possible to make your own and put them on the outside or on the inside (there even seems to be be a lock-in edge on the inside), but I would be cautious about doing this because it restricts air flow and strains the fan.

Overall, I recommend this for smaller rooms, boats, bathrooms, but for my 11x15x7.5 (feet) room it is underpowered. Also, it draws about 80 watts, which is interesting - probably around 7-10 watts for the fan and 35x2 watts for the thermal pads. So in a sense, it's a little power hungry to be on all the time.

I wanted to review the product after I had enough time to use it. I live near the ocean and so humidity is a common problem in my house. I got this unit to utilize in the kid's room. There is noticeably high humidity in their room, enough so that condensation forms on the walls at times.

1. Noise- Others have stated that the noise level on this unit is loud to whisper quiet. I would disagree with both the extremes. The fan is soft enough my kids have no problem sleeping through them. I am a little bit more sensitive to noise when I sleep and therefore would have to turn the machine off. It is quiet enough to have on during the daytime hours without considering it noise pollution.

2. Effectiveness- I would rate it is effective. There is a good amount if water collected at the base after just a few days, and only with it running for a max two hours a day. It works and it works well enough for a small 150 sq. ft. room. Larger areas were not tested.

3. Cost- After researching dehumidifiers, I would say it has a fair and reasonable cost to value ratio. It arrived at my door without damage nor any delay.

4. Improvements- Any product can be improved upon. I would have liked an air filter attachment to this machine. Reason, it would provide less debris into the room when the machine spits the sucked in air back out. Also, debris will eventually become lodged in the thermoelectric machinery rendering the unit useless. It would probably take years in a normal home environment but sooner if the air quality is less then desirable, i.e. dusty garage.

Would I purchase this unit again? Yes, and without hesitation.

Customer Review: Works for me.
Summary: 4 Stars

This unit was purchased for keeping our RV dry in the winter here in the Pacific Northwest. The unit will not be used for many months but wanted to give it a test to be sure it was working properly before putting it away until needed.
My very unscientific test was to set it up in the bathroom for about an hour to an hour and a half several mornings at shower time to see what happened.
Here is what I found;

This unit is very quiet. Though it is not going to be used for a bedroom, I would have no trouble sleeping with it running in the same room.

The transformer was only warm to the touch after an hour and a half.

It did remove water from the air, about a table spoon for as long as I let it run each morning.

I could only give it 4 stars for now because I did not let it run long enough to test the automatic shutoff switch that a few other reviewers had reported problems with.

With what I know of this dehumidifier I would purchase it again and also recommend it to others.

Customer Review: good and quiet
Summary: 4 Stars

I don't understand why one of the reviewer's labeled this one "loud." That really doesn't define this at all; we used to have ones that were as loud as washing machines. If you are really, REALLY reliant on how quiet this is, I would range that this product is just slightly above the noise that is generated through walls when your air-conditioning kicks on in a house; light and hardly noticeable within the backgrounds of everyday life. I have no problem sleeping with it on; it's completely better than white noise.

I've had it for a few months; I'm hoping it lasts long. I have it on all day everyday, because I sleep in a basement, and it really did the job and got my blankets and bed to smell better...I just never realized how hot it would get after this little power box started sucking all the cold moisture out! I would think that the only con I will receive is, if it ever breaks, I will HAVE to get a new one or I won't ever be able to sleep again, due to me being used to the white noise.
