I purchased this item at at home center type store and had to move it around my tub to find a place that it will fit. It cannot be placed on small tiles with grout, only on larger tiles bypassing any grouts cracks. It can also be placed on the edge of the tub. Before I use it to pull myself up, I test the device to make sure that it is still secure and has not loosened, as it does over time. I also do not use it to pull my whole weight out of the tub but use it as a support with the tub rim as the other support. I would not install it for the use of an elderly or infirm person. Their support must be anchored into the wall. It takes some strength to press down on the levers to install the device.
I have had it for about six months, and probably have used it almost every day that I take my tub bath. Every once is a while I remove it and scrub it with a brush and some bleach just to remove a bit of the scum that develops on the rubber cups.
I have traveled with it to two other homes where I was a house guest and used the tub so that I felt secure in exiting my bath.
