I've been using GUM picks for about 3 years now. My dental hygienist has confirmed the improvements since I started using these picks. My last visit was perfect. She even asked me what I was using that was so effective. In addition to using these picks, I also use a Braun electric toothbrush, and still use floss in some areas.
Here are a couple of things on the negative side:
- I go through 2-4 brushes per day. The stem of each pick is rather weak, so they can bend if you accidentally bump the tip into a tooth. Once that happens, the pick becomes useless. (I brush rather vigorously, which surely contributes to the high number of picks I go through.)
- If you use a pick long enough during a cleaning, the soft bristles start braking off and end up in your stomach. I'm not sure what effect these tiny bristles might have on one's health. I wrote to the company about this but never received a reply.
The picks won't get into some tight areas. So I still use floss for those spots. The combination of the three devices (picks, electric toothbrush, and floss) did the trick. No more bleeding of the gum on dental cleaning visits.
I use the the GUM picks while watching TV or read news. No dedicated time is required to use the picks. In addition my gum just feels good after each use.
