Customer Review: My favorite razor has been wonderfully improved
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've been using the Gillette Fusion ever since it first came out and have been an enthusiastic fan. There are two things that I have always loved about it. First, it gives an incredibly close shave. Other razors cut reasonably close, the using the Fusion there are times when I can run my hand across my face and not detect even the tiniest bit of beard. Nothing but smoothness. The other thing that I love about the razor is that I have cut myself using it less than any brand of razor than I have ever used. One might think that five blades might actually increase the chances of getting cut, but this isn't the case.

There have been several minor design changes over the past few years. They have all, however, been rather minor. Until now, that is. The new Proglide version of the Fusion is considerably different than the other versions. The main improvement is that blade now tilts back much more sharply, allowing you to shave at many more angles. I find that this allows a much better shave than before, especially around the nose. It is just easier to use than before. The other major change is that there is a heavier lubricant strip. Frankly, I'm not a big believer in lubricant strips. They don't seem to me to aid much in shaving. But if you think this matters, it is definitely true that the lubricant strip is heavier than on the old blades.

So, if you haven't used the Fusion series, I definitely recommend doing so. It is a great razor. And if you have been using the Fusion, I would definitely recommend the upgrade to the new Fusion Proglide. It is a great improvement to an already great razor.

Customer Review: A bit of a surprise

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I've been using multi-blade razors for a long time, and found that I preferred Gillette over Schick, the latter diving me a smoother shave. I suppose there is a degree of subjectivity involved when you make a comparison with fresh blades. I remember that Consumer Reports was unimpressed with the vibrating Fusion when it came out, but I got one right away and liked it--even while aware that each "improved" razor came with ever-more expensive blades.

Now there is the Fusion Proglide Power Razor. It makes claims of important improvements on what I would have thought was unimprovable--after all it is just a razor with a new generation (it claims) of blades.

So the question is this: is there a positive difference?

I read the information that came with the razor and on the web and was impressed by Gillette's audacity (for instance, a circuit board to keep an even flow of juice to the vibrator motor even as the battery runs down, and special groves to feed whiskers into the onrushing blades as the user draws the Fusion Proglide across a cheek!).

I figured to keep it simple: fresh blades in my current Fusion and in the Fusion Proglide, one for each cheek; four down strokes over gel shaving cream on the left cheek for the Fusion and four more on the right for the Fusion Proglide. Little did my familiy know that my morning routine had become a major evaluation activity.

Well, there is a difference. I like a smooth shave and this razor and blade gives the best shave that I've come across outside of barbershop.

I liked it and you might want to give it a try.

Customer Review: Great Razor, from a picky shaver
Summary: 5 Stars

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Ever since I was a teen, Ive been in the habit of shaving with warm water only, no foam or shaving gels, just water and a razor. Admittedly, not the best practice, but its habit now for 20+ years and I'm not changing.

This is an excellent razor. Shaves quick and clean, even 'against the grain' on the sensitive areas like my upper lip. No razor burn, not irritation. The vibrating action of the blade really seems to help over the standard versions. The non-vibrating blades, even the nicer ones, always leave razor burn if I shave against the grain, so I am forced to go with the grain even though it does not seem to be as close of a shave. This blade allows me to shave the way I want to, without the irritation I get with other blades.

Even has a cool blue light on the power button that lights up when its turned on, not sure what good its for as the razor vibrates so its hard to forget that its on, but its neat anyway.

Blade refills are rather expensive, but that seems to be a fact of life now on all razors unless you choose to go with the one piece, single use type.

I have used the same blade daily for about 2 weeks now, and it just started getting uncomfortable. I can live with that. For anyone who used shave gel or foam, you could probably go a bit longer.

I can unconditionally recommend this blade. After all, you probably shave every day, why not use something that is comfortable and fast?

Customer Review: Best Gillette ever -- and it's actually CHEAPER!!
Summary: 5 Stars

I won't repeat what some of the other reviewers have said about how well the new Power Proglide shaves, but suffice it to say, it's the most comfortable shave I've ever experienced (and I have a very sensitive neck). It's FAR more comfortable than the regular Fusion Power. To the couple of reviewers that say they couldn't tell the difference, I'd say you're either shaving wrong or do not have sensitive skin. With the Fusion Power, I'd pretty much have to shave in the shower to avoid razor burn on my neck. With the Power Proglide, I can shave without showering or even using hot water to prep my face before shaving -- no razor burn at all (or ingrown hairs), even shaving against the grain on my neck.

Here's what a lot of the reviewers are missing. On the Fusion Power, I had to change blades every 7-10 days. Any more than that and I'd get torn up. I'm in my TENTH week of using the Power Proglide blades, and I'm on my THIRD BLADE!!! It's JUST about time to change, but I could still probably handle another shave or two with no less comfort than I had with the regular Fusion Power blades. 3 BLADES in 67 days!! And the other cool thing is that these blades work perfectly on the Fusion Power chassis, so no need to buy the new Power Proglide razor (unless you just want to upgrade for the looks).

So yes, individually, the blades ARE more expensive than any other blade. But the cost savings, even over just a year, will be SIGNIFICANT for me -- almost $60/year vs. the Fusion Power... AND THE MOST COMFORTABLE SHAVE EVER??? It's a no brainer!!

Customer Review: A Qualified Five Stars
Summary: 5 Stars

Here is the scoop after one week of use.

I use to make jokes about the 5 blade razors. Then I bought a Gillette manual fusion and stopped laughing. It was awesome with closer shaving and the blades lasted one month for me!

So I just purchased the Proglide Power Razor. My "qualified 5 star rating" is given because the improvement of this razor over my first 5 blade manual Gillette is no where near the improvement seen in moving from the 3 blade to 5 blade system. There is no night and day difference. I would not be surprised if the razor by Gillette testing is an improvement. But the difference I believe is too small to discern for an average user. It may come down to whether you like the vibration. I will say that I have not determined if the vibration helps prevent the buildup of hair between the blades which is feasible. Nevertheless, I love this razor. It is entirely optional whether you use the power capability or not. And relative to my older manual 5 blade the handle on this Proglide is much more rounded and comfortable. It is not heavy at all and in fact is likely very light yet solid if you remove the battery. So I would recommend giving it a try and figure out for yourself how you prefer to use it. My one caveat at for this early review is that I have not been able to determine how long the blades last but do not expect that to be significantly different, and if I am not mistaken the older blades still fit as well.
