I bought two balls because my family is pretty messy--my husband is a wildland firefighter and I have a toddler and an infant. My husband was recently on a fire, working fifteen hour days for three weeks straight, and he wore only four pairs of socks the entire time. I washed a load with all of his fire gear and both balls, and they came out smelling like nothing, absolutely nothing. A glass of red wine was spilled on our bed: I sprayed Bac-Out on the wine and threw everything in the washer, and the stain was out completely. Even though you don't put the balls in the dryer (which might be why one reviewer's ended up broken) they eliminate the need for any fabric softener or dryer balls. Afer the initial investment of $27 for two balls, I won't be paying for anything but the water and electricity when I do laundry, and I won't have to for over 1,000 loads, according to the manufacturer. I doubt I've ever been happier with a household purchase.
