I could not believe how easily the Groom Mate Platinum XL cut my nose and ear hairs. The hairs were cut with such great ease I could not believe that it was working. The proof was in the nozzle and the face basin. It cut all the hair!!! I wanted to see how it worked without my view being blocked by my nostrils so I used it on a gray hair in my mustache. It cut it so easily if I did not see it I would not have believed it.
I have used different trimmers over the years including the Sharper Image Design model as well as the Protocol trimmer. The Sharper Image trimmer was ok for a while but many times I would have to maneuver the device in all different angles to get it to cut some of the hairs. The light was ok but provided minimal illumination. It did a decent job getting most of the long hairs. The Protocol trimmer was a gift and never worked adequately from my initial use of it. It is poorly manufactured and is too flimsy to make a positive difference. I have been looking for a new trimmer for a while and decided to purchase the XL. I am extremely glad that I did.
The solid construction of the XL is apparent from the moment you hold it in your hand. It is amazingly compact. It is about half the height of the Sharper Image product and about one quarter of the volume. It is about 1.1 millimeter in diameter versus 2.5 millimeters for the Sharper Image product. It is made of stainless steel while the other products are made of plastic. The quality comparison is as different as night and day. Battery usage was not much of a problem for me but never having to use a battery is a definite plus. I purchased the unit with the leather pouch and the brush. It is easy to clean. The usage instructions are minimal. It is rather simple to use.
A slight twist of your fingers and the hairs are smoothly cut. There was no pain!
