This has been a great purchase for me. I live in Illinois and was not used to the gray winter days (I'm from Colorado and there is at least 300 days of sunshine a year). Last winter I was depressed, gained weight, and never had any energy. Since I've been using the happy light I have experienced alertness, calmness, and my sleep patterns have become more regular, just like the advertisement said! I use it to help me wake up in the morning. I'm not sure if it's just a placebo effect or what but this light seems to be working!
Only thing, I can't help feeling like I've been ripped off. $100? If I hadn't been so desperate for something to help with SAD I definitely would have shopped around a little more for a reasonably priced product (although this was one of the cheapest I found). Also, I also don't like that I have to order from Verilux to get replacement bulbs. At $25 a piece this is pretty pricey. However, I tell myself that it's a natural solution and it beats being depressed and mopey all the time. It's also healthier than anti-depressants.

After my HappyLite arrived in the mail, I found it easy to put together and was using it in minutes. When you put it together you might think the pieces are a bit dinky, but this little light (which I keep on the side of my desk, next to my laptop) has changed my mood for the better. I currently live in Oregon, and the gray winter (and yes, a lot of the spring) definitely changes my mood. I've used it every day, and have experienced great results. I primarily use it on the "half" setting, which is bright enough for me. As others have commented, it can seem too bright the first couple of times. Just follow the positioning instructions (included) and you'll acclimate quickly. Once assembled, it's attractive and takes up very little space.Customer Review: Verilux HappyLite Mini Ultra

Have been using this light as a desk light near my computer - at the 45 degree angle recommended - for about a month. I find the low setting produces plenty of light for reading, writing, browsing, etc and doesn't produce glare - very easy on the eyes. By using it in the morning while I read the newspaper or check e-mail, it is easy to fit the light exposure regimen into my day. I'm happy with this purchase.Customer Review: Small and Bright

Overall I've been pretty happy with this purchase. The previous reviewers are correct, the light is bright! But after you get used to the brightness, it makes for a pleasant bedside reading light. The Verilux is small enough to not take up a lot of space on my bedside table. Would have given it 5 stars but the on/off button and plastic cover all look a bit cheap (wouldn't want to carry this around).
