Customer Reviews of HoMedics BKK-100 Therapist Select Shiatsu Spot Massaging CushionCustomer Review: massager is a good value that performs as advertised Summary: 5 Stars
A few words of warning before I discuss why I think this is a great massager: Massage preferences vary greatly, so you should probably try it out before making a purchase. It may be initially painful for some people (not accustomed to massage, very bony, etc), but the soreness/discomfort may diminish with regular use. Also, the motor is pretty loud, so the massage will not be relaxing if you are particularly sensitive to noise.
This massager is a very good value, as are most of the Homedics products I own. I think this massaging mechanism is more robust than that in the more versatile Homedics QRM-400 (rolls along the entire back), which I also own and recommend. Although such use is STRONGLY discouraged by the manufacturer (and common sense safety considerations), I have leaned aggressively on this massager to target a really deep knot in my upper back and the motor didn't complain or overheat after 10 minutes of use. I have only owned this massager for a few weeks, but other Homedics products I own have lasted through a few years of regular use. This is certainly not the perfect massager but for those who can't afford a $3000 massage chair or regular spa massages, it does help relieve tight muscles at the end of a hard day.
Customer Review: A portable masseuse! Summary: 5 Stars
I got this for Christmas because I wanted it based on all the stellar reviews. Yes, this does live up to the hype. Upon unwrapping it at my parent's house on Christmas morning, I sat it on a chair at our dining room table and plugged it in. It felt FANTASTIC. The rotating balls feel like the fingers of a masseuse carefully kneading the tension out of your back. Incredibly relaxing. Over the next couple hours, each member of my family tried it. All five of us all loved it. My brother asked if he could buy it from me, he used it on his lower back for almost an hour. My dad said he would use it as much as he could before I take it to my own apartment.
The massager is easiest to use on the lower back, but I also use it on my neck and shoulders. I really like that it has two different speeds: fast or slow. I prefer to slow speed for a more calming, yet invigorating, massage.
I would recommend this product instead of, or in addition to, a full chair massager because this is more portable. I can easily unplug it and take it anywhere: to my desk chair, the sofa as I watch TV, or a friend's house.
Customer Review: Worth the money! Summary: 5 Stars
This year I bought three Homedics products. The Recliner Massage Chair, the QRM-400 back massager, and this unit (the BKK-100). Of the three the BKK-100 was the best investment. The chair was a waste of time, money, and space, and went south a few weeks ago, so it went out in the trash. I still use the QRM-400, and am in the process of buying another BKK-100 Cushion. The only fault I found with the BKK had to do with the way the power cord attaches to the cushion. Usually they beef up power cords at the point of attachment for protection. The cushion does get moved around a lot during normal use, and can put stress on the cord at this point. A few weeks ago mine shorted out at this point (with a loud bang and a flash of light). Since it was unrepairable I decided to buy another one. I found it to be the best thing for my lower back and shoulder/neck pain. It also saves me trips to the chiropractor. I will keep an eye on the power cord this time, maybe reinforce the cord with some tape where it attaches to the cushion.
Customer Review: Great on feet Summary: 5 Stars
I bought this primarily for my feet and works great. Also good for upper back where the Homedics 400 model with heat and quad rollers don't reach. THAT kinda irritated me, as it advertised as being FULL BACK....and their intrep. of full back is only half way up....and was too much of a hassle and lost money on restocking fees to return...a monster built-into the machine, I think....I believe in truth in advertising. So with that noted, if you buy any of the full back massagers, you will indeed need to buy this and find a way to do your upper mid-back and shoulders and this thing is powerful....on my feet, one does have to learn where and at what angle to place your feet without it being uncomfortable but most foot massagers just fibrate..that's it. This 100 model really gets in deep and works on hands as well, for my peripheral neuropathy. Buy it, you will be impressed!
Customer Review: Excellent Product Summary: 5 Stars
This is one of the most satisfying purchases I have ever made. While nothing can take the place of a "live person massage" this product certainly does come closer than any other product I have ever used. My husband says he would have paid $100.00 for it, had he known I would stop asking him for a shoulder massage every 8 seconds. You do have to move around a bit to get to certain muscles, but once you find it, it is heavenly. My shoulder & arm have improved tremendously since I've been using it. It is easy to maneuver around as it is compact and I usually lay on it in bed of an evening. I often fall asleep on it! I highly recommend this to someone who wants something small, and relatively inexpensive by way of a massager.
