I have a Homedics Anti-Gravity Recliner that I have owned for over four years. Six of the ten motors have now failed, the lower shoulder, lower back and upper thigh motors.
This "Traveling" Shiatsu Massage is the perfect upgrade to my chair. Because the Anti-Gravity chair has a very high back on it, I can place this unit as high as I want to reach any part of my back or neck that needs attention. I'm six foot tall, but have a long body and short legs so being able to reach my upper shoulders and neck is hard for any unit but with this chair it is no problem due to the tall back allowing me to move the massage motors higher up. So the fellow who is 6'1", unless you have short legs like me (30"), odds are my neck is higher from the seat than yours by 1"-2" since a "normal" six foot tall person's legs are from 31" to 33" long.
Because the chair has a pocket on the side to hold the massage controller, it's an ideal place to store the Shiatsu controller and hide the blue LED's from view.
Since the chair is built for an add-on massage anyway, there's no problem with the thickness of the unit. In fact, since the back of this chair bows out, I had to place a small pillow between the back and the massage unit so that it arches slightly into my back. I had to do it because I suffer from sleep apnea and having a chair back that arches away from my back causes my chest to constrict. Arching my back by placing a pillow behind the pad lets my chest expand, making breathing easier.
I just have to mention my chair is used multiple times per day,every day for four years straight before the motors began to fail. I sit in my chair every day and many times I fall asleep in it whole nights through. So I have gotten many times my money worth in value out of this chair and with a new massage unit I expect to get another four years out of it. By then, Homedics will have developed the next generation of massage units and I can upgrade it again.
To be able to upgrade its capabilities for 37% of the original purchase price of the chair is fantastic. The closest I can come in a new chair would be the iJoy massage chair which runs about $700 and doesn't recline. You can buy a new Anti-Gravity Recliner for about $400 and then buy this Shiatsu pad for $150 and end up with a better chair than the iJoy for $150 less AND have an extra 10 motor heated massage pad with 8 massage programs and three speeds tossed in for good measure! Show me any other chair you can do that with and I will run to get it.
