Like the title says, it has a really bad smell like burnt rubber. It was a gift and she didnt like the smell so much that I had to return it.
I guess the smell would eventualy go away.
As for the "massage" aspect, well it does have 10 motors that can be selected for different zones but they stay on and just BUZZ... its not really very good and the heat is hardly noticable.

I considered the Shiatzu product by the same manufacturer, but so many reviews complained about defective Shiatzu cushions that I decided on this model instead. We plugged it in, and it worked fine for about twenty minutes. Then it stopped working, and the motor started overheating. There was a strong burnt odor well after we turned it off. Because of similar negative reviews of other Homedics products, we will be returning this for a refund, not a replacement. Too bad. We were really looking forward to using this, and we would have loved to keep it if only it had worked, but I'm not going to take chances on a product that has the potential to burn down the house.Customer Review: Does more harm than good

I purchased this massage pad for my office chair. After a couple of days I notice that my right leg was going numb, not from use of the massager but the motor had cut off cirulation to my leg. It took nearly a week for the pain in my leg to go away. This thing is not designed very well and from my experience does more harm than good.Customer Review: absolute waste of money

I figured for $25 it was worth the risk; now I regret it. The vibrating motors are so small they are not relaxing, they are just annoying. Get a shiatsu model instead.
