Customer Reviews of Homedics SC-373 ProgressTracker Digital Scale, 400lb/180kg. Capacity

Customer Review: Temperamental
Summary: 2 Stars

Contrary to views of others I've found the reading on these scales to be very temperamental. Move them slightly and you get a different reading. I've tried on all surfaces, both with and without the "carpet extension feet".

As someone else pointed out, the reading is woefully inaccurate on any surface whcih has a bit of give in it (e.g. carpet with underlay).

Manual talks about "initialising" the reading every time that you knock or move the scales. You initialise (or should I say initialize - I'm from the UK) by stepping on and off the scales and then waiting for the reading to go off before stepping back on again. This does seem to lead to a more consistent and accurate reading (on a hard floor) but, if like me you keep the scales close to a wall, do you really want to do this every time you move the scales to use them?

The previous scales I owned (by Salter - different brand of the same company) gave perfectly consistent and accurate readings on any surface without messing about with additional feet, so I was disappointed when they broke and even more disappointed at these as a replacement.

On the positive side they feel nice and sturdy, unlike some of the plastic ones available, and the styling is pretty funky. Also I couldn't see a problem with the user manual description of how to use the memory function - perhaps they have updated since earlier comments (or perhaps UK version is different).

Customer Review: Seems Accurate But Instruction Manual is Worthless
Summary: 1 Stars

An instruction manual for a bathroom scale, you ask? Sadly, the answer is yes. This scale purports to not only give you an accurate weight reading, but it also promises to track your previous weight, so you can see if you are gaining or losing. Trouble is, after 30 minutes of doing exactly what the instructions told me to do, I still could not get the memory tracker to work. And the terminology is obtuse. For example, the instructions tell you to select a "memory location." After much trial and error, I find out that "memory location" really means "select user number" (apparently you can have 1 - 4 users). It's this lack of consistent terminology that drives one crazy. Clearly, whoever wrote the instructions never tried them out on uninformed users. Or they've made it so complicated that it's hard to figure out. I'll admit, the product seems to do what a scale is supposed to do: give you your accurate weight. But you can pretty much ignore the rest of the instruction manual. You won't understand it anyhow, unless you're some kind of bathroom scale techie. And there's no need to buy a memory tracker scale if you can't get the memory tracker to work.
