Customer Reviews of Lansinoh Manual Breast Pump, 1-CountCustomer Review: This is a FANTASTIC pump Summary: 5 Stars
Just had my 4th baby and after much anxiety over whether or not I would make enough milk this time around (I had no problem with my son, but short supply with my twins) I am finding myself with a tad too much milk - and a baby who likes to snack rather than have big meals. I just wanted a manual pump to take some of the pressure off when he doesn't drain things or on those occasions where he goes a long time without eating. I had an Avent Isis with my first son and got rid of it because I hardly used it and when I tried it didn't seem to work well (turns out I wasn't using it correctly, I have problems with reading directions... I'm one of those "I'll just look at the picture" kind of people who it takes 2 or 3 tries to put together anything from IKea... )
What I do remember about the isis pump that can't be blamed on user error was it took only wide mouth bottles - and avent bottles are pricey - and the petal shaped cushion tended to suck up milk which was annoying. I had forgotten about this but having read it in other reviews I remember now and I know it wasn't just me! I can't quite figure out if the adaptors that let you pump with any pump into avent bottles work backwards and allow you to pump with an avent pump into any bottle. You can certainly get by with the one avent bottle that comes with the pump and pour into a different container to store but I really don't like how the pump now seems to only come with one bottle - back ups are always nice to have, and like I said avent bottles are pricey. (And as far as bottles go, we hated them)
I ended up getting this pump based on the great reviews and the advice of a mommy I know on line and it's a great little pump!!! It is VERY similar to the avent - I really wonder if they make it? The diaphram is the same as I remember, and I seem to think avent has changed their valves from the old star valve to something more like the Ameda valve. It works VERY much the same - except it doesn't have a petal cushion and it takes any bottle - AND it comes with extra parts. (The avent pumps use to but it doesn't look like they do now? I have not looked in stores, just on line) All around it's just a better deal.
It's super easy to clean - I just rinse with hot water right after use and give it a good soap wash once a day. Very few pieces to clean. A breeze to set up and use, none of the drawn out production of an electric, so it's awesome to use just to grab an ounce or two here and there throughout the day (or night).
I am only using this for letting off pressure so I am not going to report getting crazy amounts of milk here but I can get an ounce in a very short period of time. The trick is a few short shallow pumps to let down and then deeper pumps where you hold the handle a few seconds to really extract the milk. Since you can just hold the deeper pumps as long as you want in some ways it really seems MORE efficient than electric pumping - the only downside is you can't be hands-free.
My only concern is the flange is on the smaller side, and I consider myself on the average side, so while it works for me, I have to really line everything up in there if you know what I mean, just so - I can see a larger woman maybe having issues. I seem to remember the Avent being a little bigger. But overall it's a great manual pump. Serves my needs perfectly and very happy with this purchase!
Customer Review: Better than my double electric pump Summary: 5 Stars
I've had this pump for 1 day, and I must say that I already got more milk out than my electric pump. I should have just got this thing from the beginning.
I have the First years double electric mi pump...and it is worthless to me. Maybe it suits someone else, but I found it very inconvenient to have to hook up wires and tubes and listen to the hummmm click, hummmm click every time I pump. I spend 30-40 minutes and wind up with just 1 oz of milk from both breasts.
So I sat down with my new Lansinoh manual pump today and gave it a try...why not for under $40.
At first I felt like it had no suction as compared to my electric pump (which kinda hurt sometimes). But I noticed that after a few pumps I could see milk coming out...but it didn't feel nearly as uncomfortable as I thought it should. What I really like about it is that you pump it quickly to get the "let down" then you can hold the pump for longer and it keeps drawing out the milk with out losing suction. Very easy on your hands.
So here are the pros of this pump...
1. Its easy to set up
2. It comes with a couple of extra pieces in case you break the others (not all pieces, just the important ones)
3. It fits most standard sized bottles so your not limited to the oddly shaped ones that come with the pump. I used the Similac freezer bottles.
4. I got about 1oz out in less than half the time of my other electric pump.
5. comfortable suction
6. Easy to take apart and wash. Comes with a cleaning brush, something my other pump did not include.
I haven't had it long enough to experience any squeaking, like other reviewer have said. But I'll take the squeaking as long as it is doing its job. I love the Lansinoh freezer bags, and this product is a hit too...Lansinoh is slowly winning me over. :)
Customer Review: The best pump! Summary: 5 Stars
I have to start out by saying that this is an absolutely fantastic pump, the only one I'll use. I have tried two different electric pumps, and one other manual pump (the Medela Harmony) and this one is by far the best for many reasons. First of all, the part that fits onto the breast is very soft and comfortable, making it easy to get a good seal. Also, the handle is very ergonomic and comfortable to use for the duration of a pumping session. My hand does not get tired at all, and suction is just perfect for me. This pump does not hurt at all and yet extracts the same amount of milk that I would with an electric pump, and all with no pain!
This might be personal preference, but I don't really get why so many women use electric pumps which are harder to control, noisy, can sometimes hurt and are so bulky. I throw this pump in my bag and take it to work to pump everyday, and it's so comfortable, discreet, quiet and easy to clean. Instead of dreading pumping, it makes it a joy to express breast milk for my daughter.
Another great thing is the extra parts as well as the cleaning brush which make this whole set an even better value for the money. Since the top disassembles, having the alternate pieces allows the top to be cleaned and dried without the pump being out of commission.
My only issue was that it did start to squeak after about a month of use. It didn't really matter when I pumped at home, but at work I was highly conscious of the noise, so I put some vaseline on the part where it was squeaking and now it is silent again.
Overall, I can say I honestly don't know what I would do without it. I don't think I would be pumping if I didn't have it, I would have given up long ago!
Customer Review: Surprised me with its comfort, speed and easy operation Summary: 5 Stars
I read many reviews before purchasing this product. It was easy to find other brands in local stores, but I knew the brand Lansinoh as supplying top notch nursing products and was intrigued. Years ago I had tried other brands, like Evenflo, and they were ok. In the hospital I used a top-notch double electric pump. I prefer, however, the Lansinoh Manual Breast Pump to them all. I am not attached to a big contraption, like the big electric pumps--like a cow in a dairy. :-P It is not as noisy, and I got milk just as fast and as comfortably if not moreso. Yes, you have to pump one side at a time, but I hated pumping both sides at once anyway because it just felt so unnatural to me.
You can adjust the suction level simply by how far and hard you squeeze the lever. I was worried the lever would tire my hand, but they have it attached to a neat little contraption which makes it a breeze. NO HAND DISCOMFORT whatsoever. It EXTRACTED milk QUICKLY. It was QUIET. (I have read some reviews saying theirs squeaks from time to time; mine does not.) The funnel at the breast has a COMFORTABLE SOFT SHIELD. I found that I could adjust the suction level to suit my own comfort just by adjusting how hard and quickly I pulled the lever. Slow and part way was sufficient to produce a fast milk flow for me, and it was not difficult to do so.
Out of all the breast pumps I've used--two hospital ones, and two single pumps (one battery and one manual)--this is by far the best. I couldn't imagine a better pump. If you've got to pump, this is the way to go. Thank you, Lansinoh!
(By the way, I also highly recommend their nursing pads.)
Customer Review: The Best Pump Ever!!! Summary: 5 Stars
Like almost anything I purchase I did a lot of research before I decided to try this pump. I was very skeptical about purchasing a manual pump because a lot of lactation consultants refer to them as torture devices. I had used two different electric pumps with my son 3 years ago and wanted to make sure I got something that was going to work so I could continue to provide our daughter with breast milk. At first I was looking into the lansinoh electric pump but after reading all the rave reviews on this pump I decided to try it.
I am soo glad I bought this pump. It works soo much better then the other pumps I have used. I know one reviewer found it "frustrating" cause she stated it wouldnt work with droplets of water in it.... However I have had to use this pump while it was still wet cause I was at work and fully engorged and the pump worked just the same wet. I have had no issues with this pump and thanks to this pump I have been able to exclusively breast feed my daughter for 3 months now. I use this pump every day and it takes just a few minutes to express a full bottle for my daughter.
This pump will be a gift I give to every nursing mother. It is soo small and portable. I had a small cooler from one of the electric pumps I had and I am able to fit the pump, 2 bottles and a cool pack in it when I go to work. It has been a huge life saver and you cant beat the price!
I love lansinoh products and will continue to use them and recommend them.
