To be clear, this product works on live lice, not nits. And when it encounters a lice, it does kill, or at least, stun it.
But the device is cantankerous. It turns off frequently and has to be cleaned each time with the little brush to turn on again. Even with clean tines, it is still difficult to get it to turn back on or keep it from sputtering.
It's really best to start irradication by knocking out as much as possible with a shampoo. (Licefreee worked extremely well on both lice AND nits - and is non toxic.) For follow-up treatment, if a second person is available, manual inspection should suffice, negating the need for this device. But if a second person is not available, this device is probably worthwhile.

I have a love-hate relationship with the Robi Comb. I think it helped me conquer a lice infestation. It's particularly good at pulling out and alerting me to tiny nymphs that I would have missed on a visual inspection. And when it zaps the lice, it's good to know if I don't get the bugs off the child's head, they're dead and can't bite or reproduce. HOWEVER, I suspected that my kids were reinfested so ran the RobiComb through their hair. Not a blip in the buzzing, so I thought we were home free. Not so! Something was WRONG with Mr. RobiComb, because I checked again later with an ordinary metal lice comb and found lots o'little licey. I got a new rOBIComb and use it, but in conjunction with traditional, non-electric metal combs.Customer Review: Good for use in conjunction with another treatment

When my daughter started school we started getting nits. The chemicals needed to rid us of the nits were harsh, dangerous and expensive. This was one of the products we tried as an alternative. The comb does seem to zap the nits successfully when it finds them. It definitely reduced the need to use a nit comb between applications. The difficulty for me was that despite spending up to 15 minutes a night on each family member it was not enough to completely eradicate the problem. I found that this is a useful product when used in conjunction with other treatments but not as a stand alone treatment.

I bought this after my daughter got headlice. I am pregnant and dont need the chemicals around. I also cant afford the other treatment. So I bought this since I can do it on a regular basis as many times as I need to. My only suggestion would be to make sure your hair is combed out before you use it and make sure your hair is sectioned out as well. My hair is thick and if it got too big of a piece through it it would stop like it hit something but nothing would be on it when it was through my hair.Customer Review: Its OK !!!

It does kill lice but not all of them cause its very hard to comb threw girls long hair . It also does not kill eggs . This product is alright if you want to get the live numbers down . But if you want this to work then you still need to do a chemical treatment then comb threw there hair with the metal lice comb and then use this product for any new hatches that you missed with the treatment steps ...
