Customer Reviews of Light Bulb Frosted Full Spectrum (60 Watt) 1 Count

Customer Review: Very long lasting, great quality to the light these emit
Summary: 5 Stars

I installed these bulbs in almost all the lamps in my house in the year 2000. I've noticed that many bulbs are burning out now -- in other words they've lasted about 10 years. I have had a few burn out earlier in lamps that I use constantly, though.

Anyway, the light these emit makes is much more like daylight than your average bulb. Regular bulbs emit a more yellow-colored light, these are more pinkish in color. I tried using a compact fluorescent bulb once, had to turn the light off immediately -- what a horrible color. I know they're expensive, but I think these bulbs are worth the cost.

Customer Review: The best incandescent bulb for reading.
Summary: 5 Stars

Do a test with this bulb and a regular incandescent. Open a book and look at the words with the standard bulb, then change the bulb and look at the text in the book. You'll notice that there is more contrast between the words and the page; they look bolder. I use this bulb in a lamp at my desk and wouldn't go back to anything else.

Yes, they are expensive, but they last forever, it seems. I think they are rated at 5,000 hours. I've had one bulb that I've had for ten years and use it daily.

Customer Review: Your money's worth
Summary: 5 Stars

The other reviewers mention the nice light this bulb gives off, and talk a little about how it is different from other bulbs. The feature they didn't mention is that they are very long-lasting; on the box it says "Average 5000 Hours," and I believe it. I don't change light bulbs very often at all, which makes them worth the higher price. I recommend these highly.

Customer Review: natural light for your tasks
Summary: 5 Stars

I have been using these bulbs for about 10 years. The full spectrum light is great for painting, and reading. I also believe it improves my mood, during the winter bahs.

Customer Review: Nice light
Summary: 4 Stars

These bulbs give off a nice, relaxing light that is easy on the eyes. Some things to keep in mind with these bulbs:

Chromalux bulbs are really a normal light bulb that has glass that absorbs certain colors to create a balanced, low glare, high contrast light. Great for reading. But since it is absorbing some of the light, they are not as bright. About 2/3 the light of a stamdard bulb of the same wattage. So a 100 watt Chromalux is about as bright as a 60 watt bulb. A 60 watt Chromalux is quite dim, like a 40 watt bulb, not really bright enough to light up a 10x10 room properly.

Also, the absorbed light is given off as heat. Therefore, they do get noticably hotter than standard bulbs. Best to have a ceramic (not plastic) base, and nothing near the bulb that can burn or melt.

Still, a great bulb anyplace you are going to be doing a lot of reading or detail work.

For general lighting, especially for lights you leave on a lot, I would recommend full-spectrum compact fluorescents. Look for one with a color temperature in the general area of 5000-6000K, and a CRI (color rendition index) of >80. You get a lot of light with very little electricity, and the quality of light is quite good.
