Customer Reviews of Listerine Essential Care Toothpaste, Powerful Mint Paste, 4.2-Ounce Tubes (Pack of 4)Customer Review: Strong Listerine Taste - But you feel real clean! Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
So, this toothpaste isn't that bad, if you tolerate Listerine mouthwash AND you use it first thing in the morning. I made the critical error of rinsing my mouth with Scope, and then brushing with the Listerine toothpaste a bit later. Bad move. It tasted like wet soil. Now, reversing the order (brush then rinse with mouthwash) it tastes fine, and you sure do feel clean. A good product with a great reputation, the Listerine experience is in every tube. If you like Listerine, you'll like the toothpaste.
Customer Review: Does The Job Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
This Listerine toothpaste does a good job of cleaning your teeth and freshening your breathe, tho I would prefer a different flavor. The taste of this toothpaste reminds me more of Wintergreen, a flavor I really don't care for. To me this tastes more like Wintergreen, and less mint flavored.
I wanted to try this because I do like their mouthwash, which is also effective at freshening your breath.
Customer Review: weird aftertaste Summary: 3 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
As far as toothpaste goes, it definitely does the job, but the Listerine element leaves a funny aftertaste in your mouth. Maybe that's just the toothpaste at work cleaning... but if you can get past the strong taste, or like it, then it's a good, useful product.
Customer Review: Still nasty after all these years Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
Years ago (over 40) I tried Listerine mouthwash and tried to overlook the taste of it in favor of having good breath. It didn't work then. This toothpaste reminded me of that ordeal because it has an extremely strong, and frankly, disagreeable, medicinal flavor. Because "medicinal" isn't descriptive enough, I made the effort to determine what exactly was making me reach that conclusion. Without my even looking at the label, it's very easy to notice the eucalyptus and menthol. The active ingredients, in order per the label, are: Eucalyptol, 0.738%; Menthol, 0.340%; Methyl salicylate, 0.480%; Thymol, 0.511%; and Sodium monofluorphosphate, 0.76%. Also, there is supposed to be a mint flavor in this toothpaste; I defy you to find it.
While this toothpaste, over time, may prevent bad breath, gingivitis and cavities, I just can't bear to use it the first thing in the morning, or the last thing at night for that matter. I gave it five days, and I will never get used to the icky taste. My own experience is that I used Crest toothpaste for 35 years, then Arm & Hammer (like the baking soda) for the most recent 5 years, and I have had no cavities in this period whatsoever...really. My gums are okay for being 63 years old, and so far my husband has not complained of me having bad breath. So much for this experiment; I'm going back to the Arm & Hammer.
Customer Review: Tastes like Listerine! Summary: 2 Stars
Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
The biggest surprises for me with this toothpaste is how it taste exactly like Listerine mouthwash. Seriously, they captured that alcohol/mint flavor perfectly.
So congratulations to all of the scientific know-how that went into recreating that flavor in a toothpaste form, but...
It turns out that what tasted good in a mouthwash doesn't taste good in a toothpaste. Maybe it is the amount of time the flavor spends in your mouth? I have no idea, really, because I use Listerine mouthwash pretty regularly, but I wasn't a fan of this toothpaste. Too medicinal tasting, not minty enough...bleach.
It was fun to try once, but while the Listerine bottle is staying in the bathroom, the tube of Listerine toothbrush won't make a repeat appearance.
