Customer Review: Lumiscope 1080: Not Exactly "Old Reliable"

It was with some enthuisiam and a blood pressure reading of 133/90 that I opened my Lumiscope 1080 Blood Pressure monitor and started to read the directions to program it. After reading the manual that didn't seem to apply to my machine and finding with some annoyance that I was totally unable to dis-able the beeping alarm feature to remind you to take your blood pressure every day, my own climbed just a tad. My husband, whose blood pressure that never exceeds 120/75 even when reading vague little manuals for electronic gadgets, programmed the settings for me. I used it daily for just over 3 months, finding it easy enough to use and accurate when tested against my doctor's office machine. (I set the annoying beeper alarm to the middle of the day so it would rouse my dogs from slumber and nudge their blood pressure just a bit. The only thing was that the days I was at home, the beeper always managed to startle me when I was trying to take a nap.) The read-out display screen was easy to read but the 30 day graph display so small as to make me run around looking for a magnifying glass - which would have helped raise my heart rate, but unnecessarily use up too much of my limited spare time for exercise.
A few weeks ago, just as I was marvelling at the results of a healthier life-style on my blood pressure, the batteries seemingly ran out. Two changes of batteries succeeded only in allowing partially visible read-outs and obviously wrong readings (90/60, I don't think so!, and )I realized it was not working at all. After rummaging for a box,scrambling through the manual for the service center address,... and rushing to the post office before sprinting for the train, my blood pressure has gone up more than a few points, especially since I couldn't find the receipt and had to get a copy of my credit card bill. I did a little research with the nurse at my doctor's office before buying this. I bought the more expensive Lumiscope after hearing how unreliable the cheaper models are, but alas this one seems no better than the rest.

I bought this unit in January of 2002. I was satisfied at first, using it once or twice a week. It seemed to work as advertised. Within six weeks of puchase the digital display started losing portions of the characters, finally to the point that it became unusable. I followed the warranty instructions and sent the entire paakage back to Lumiscope along with a check for [money] fro return shipping and handling. My biggest complaint is that I cannot get any information from this company in regards to the "possible" return of my unit repaired or replaced. It has been gone for approximately six weeks. I have sent numerous e-mails to their service department. I have made numerous phone calls and left messages for their service department,(they won't answer the phone, voice mail only). I have not received one response. You would think that this company would at least have the courtesy to let you know that they have the product you puchased from them in some type of system and respond to their "customer" with some type of expectation that they are working on your issue. Nothing!! At this point due to health issues, I have given up and will have to purchase something else, NOT FROM LUMISCOPE!!
Bottom line, don't waste your time or money on this companies products. They are not good for your blood pressure.
